BEFORE OSCOE CONKLING HILL, Principal of East Denver High School, -was born on a farm in Indiana and educated in the rural s c h o o 1 s. This sounds like the earlyilife of a Congressman. A prosaic writeup might go very well had the writer not found the above picture ,of Mr. Hill taken at the age of sixteen. V , AFTER It doesnlt well fit into the story of the life of a bashful country boy-especially since many of us heard the confession about the disappearance of a whole wagonload of watermelons. Some of us have a suspicion that the Hillyfamily buggy was as hard to keep in the barn as some of the present-day family flivvers. Mr. Hill was graduated from the Indiana State Normal and later attended the University of Indiana. 'He was graduated from the University of Colorado in 1904-. It will be encour- aging to some of our much-in-love Seniors, who think that four years of college means a wait of eternity, to know that Mr. Hill was married while an under-graduate. After coming from Indiana, Mr. Hill located in Colorado Springs and served the schools there, first as teacher, then as high school principal and later as superintendent. During this time he obtained a degree of Master of Arts from Colorado College and did graduate work at Columbia, Chicago and In- diana Universities. The thing that is always uppermost with Mr. Hill is how to keep East Denver the best high school in the West. He is not only a great friend of the under-graduate body, but keeps in close touch with the alumni and is always happy to hear of their progress and success. CLARK H. SPITLER.
