The day of initiation began with an an- nouncement asking all Sophomores to go to the auditorium. With visions of horrors await- ing them, the class of 1978 sat nervously through the welcome speech by Joy Justus. The curtains slowly parted, groans sounded through the air. ln front of the Sophomores sat a sea of multi-colored dunce hats which each person received, personalized with a custom fit. Throughout the rest of the day the halls echoed with recited shouts for demand- ing upperclassmen. Pep rally time arrived. Sophomore football players received a double introduction, one by Coach Hamilton, and one by the wearing of oversized diapers. As the day concluded. the Sophomore class officers were introduced and each Sophomore became an official member of East, having survived Initiation Day! Orientation!13
