CLASS MESSAGE
We the Class of 1955 have arrived at one of the crossroads on the
highway of our respective lives Our hopes and fears as well as accomplishments
are interwoven with the wisdom guidance and patience given so generously
by our parents and all the members of the school staff
We shall continue to try and keep in perspective the basic precept that
the strength of our society IS deeply rooted in our each and every thought How
and what we think are forged out on the anvil of education
We accept cheerfully the challenge of present day needs for raising higher
our sights when it comes to tolerance forthrightness and mutual understanding
of the many local and international problems
The creation and keeping of worthwhile accomplishments will undoubtedly
require stepped up efforts on the part of each and every one of us We shall
need to share and forgive and above all to have a clear understanding always
of the difference between the important and the irrelevant.
Since the basic difference between progress and failure is simply a matter
of direction then we must all recognize individually the need for adjusting
our lives quickly and easily just as nature has so wondrously provided for either
the ebb or flood tide.
Senior Executive Board
It is the duty of the Senior Executive Board to guide all seniors through
their last year, indeed the most important and eventful of all high school years.
The members plan the senior activities and see to it that they come off success-
fully. Much credit is due to this eflicient Board.

SOPHOMORE
SOPHOMORE CLASS
The Class of '55 has shown a fine willingness to
work cooperatively for the benefit of themselves and
the entire school. Although they were successful as
freshmen, they show promise of even greater achieve-
ment as sophomores. Some of this credit undoubtedly
belongs to the group from St. Mary's who enter East
Hartford High School as sophomores

FRESHMAN
FRESHMAN CLASS
Life in a new and strange environment opened the
amazed eyes of the freshmen this year. The pranks
of their elders both baffled and pleased them as they
became well adjusted to life in a large high school.
May they continue successfully their fine work and
may their attitude set the right example when they
inherit the "new high school."

FOOTBALL
The Hornet gridders started off their 1952 campaign with a new coach Hank
Giard: who brought back as an offensive weapon the old Notre Dame box formation
In their first date the Giardimen routed a weak Rockville eleven by 32 O tally
After two losses to more experienced Weaver and Manchester teams East Hartford
edged out Southington 12 6 in their first Alumni Field game Hartford Public earned
a 19 6 trrumph over the Hornets who then closed out their state with three successive
victories over Hall of West Hartford 2713 Woodrow Wilson of Middletown
25 12 and the CCII. champs Windham 51 14
East Hartfords driving back Bob Wood Hnished far ahead of the scorers in
the district individual touchdown derby with a total of 95 points Captain Red Repoli
played 1 big part in the Hornet successes with his strong play while Ray Woodworth
'though vastly underrated in the local newspapers paved the way for many of his
mates long touchdown runs with his powerful blocking The Most Improved Player
Award was won by Walt ames for his steady work Coaches Giardi and ackson as
well as the football squad earned well the plaudits they won for their surprising 5 5
record

BASKETBALL
Head coach Jack Wise and an untried hoop five started off the 52-55 season with
gloomy prospects, for, from the two preceding seasons, was a losing skein of 'seventeen
straight games.
After three defeats, the Hornets shattered the losing string, stringing Kingswood
prep, 54-29. Later in the campaign, the E.H. quintet registered successive victories
over such rivals as Hall of West Hartford and Manchester's Indians. Sparking the
E.H. drive were Senior Captain Tom Moore, Junior Hashes Lee Martin and Phil Brown
and Sophomore star Tom Molumphey. As the season progressed, a remarkable improve-
ment in the calibre of play could be observed. The basketeers closed out their winning
with a 69-62 second decision over Hall High.
Future success is indicated by the fact that only four seniors, Captain Moore, Bob
Cable, Bob Hanley and Harry Parker, will be lost by graduation. Due to the fact that
the squad was green, it acquitted itself well during the slate, showing a fiery will to win.

Dick Jepsen, Harry Parker, Walter Burnham, Phil Brown, Jerome Behmke.
This verse may be used very appropriately in describing the 1952 baseball team.
For although it managed to accumulate only a fair 7 won, 7 loss record, it displayed
an excellent fighting spirit and sense of good sportsmanship, even in defeat.
An excellent example of this fighting spirit was shown in the first Hartford High
game. The score stood 9 to O in Hartfords favor through the first seven innings, when
suddenly in the eighth and ninth innings, the Hornets staged a phenomenal eight-run
rally and wouldn't admit defeat until the last man had been retired.
This was just one display of the fine attitude instilled into the team by the expert
leadership of Co-Captains "Squeeky" jordan and "Teddy" Cowing.
The success of the team, however, was not the work of one or a few individuals.
It was the combined efforts of the entire squad.
Led by a superb pitching staff consisting of Bob Rataic, "Beebe" Martin, Mike
Fisher, and Bob Nurmi, and many experienced veterans including Co-Captains Bob
Wood and Bud Skehan, Frank Gilnack, Dick Jepson, Bill Reid, "Pudge" Seeley, Joe
Wengyn, and "Frenchy" LaPointe, Coach Bob Jackson is looking forward to 1955 as
the brightest season in his four years' coaching at East Hartford High School.

broke the all-time East Hartford High mark for high jump at the Greater

Suggestions in the East Hartford High School - Janus Yearbook (East Hartford, CT) collection:
Are you trying to find old school friends, old classmates, fellow servicemen or shipmates? Do you want to see past girlfriends or boyfriends? Relive homecoming, prom, graduation, and other moments on campus captured in yearbook pictures. Revisit your fraternity or sorority and see familiar places.
