DEBATE TEAM D. Campbell, F. Altman, J. Heidpren, Mrs. Meyer, R. Willey. Debate Team 'l'he debate team, with only one returning veter- an was somewhat handicapped this year. Cloached by Nlrs, Nleyer, the team was cotnposed ol' Dick Campbell and Fred ,Xltman on the allirmative, and Richmond XVilley and -lack lleidgen on the nega- tive. Debating the topic, Resolved that all Ameri- can citizens should be subject to conscription lor essential service in time ol' war, the teatn tnade a good showing. liast won six out ol' eight conference debates, including a double victory over Kalama- zoo State High School. ln a city league contest, the debalors split with Ottawa. By qualilying lor the district tournament, East's debate tearm again received the llniversity ol Nlichigan .Xward lor excellence. PERMANENT STAGE CREW Permanent Stage Crew The permanent stage crew is a service organiza- tion made up ol' students trained in the art ol' stage upkeep. Their work includes washing, repairing, and recovering llats. They are also in charge ol' the care and upkeep ol' the costumes in the loft. The stage crew helps with IIIOSL ol' the school activities, qlunior and Senior plays, I'.T.A. programs, and the grade school children's plays. This group pulls the curtain, operates the lights, and moves llats. lt also sets up lights for school dances. This year the crew installed an inter-communi- cation system between the projection booth in the balcony and the stage. Other miscellaneous tasks which it performed included building llats and stage sets, repairing audio equipment, and making various important backstage repairs. Mrs. Meyer, R. Cowan, U.
