She smiled, loo. l've always had a warm spol in my hearl lor lhe sophomores. They're iusl enlering high school, and so anxious lo do lhings - lo accomplish somelhing. And lhey usually do, loo. I nodded. Our lirsl big evenl ol lhe year was lhe Chrislmas parly. Jack Swain and Dorolhy Joselly were co-chairmen lor lhal. ll was one ol lhe nicesl parlies l've ever allended. There were singing and a round ol games. Allerward, ol course, we served relreshmenls. ll was a very simple parly. ll woulon'r have appealed lo the seniors. because we had loo much lun. Then we enlered a lree in lhe b g Chrislmas Parly. We won lhal conlesl and gol lhe dollar prize. lThe Sludenl Council gol lour lrees wilh which lo decorale lhe audilorium.l The sopho- mores were guile pulled up aboul il, lhough, so l guess il was all righl. Yes, l suppose il was all in lhe spiril ol good lun, I said. B-ul lell me, Miss DeJonge, was lhere any oulslanding achievemenl which will serve lo keep lhe memory ol lhis class alive lhroughoul lhe years? ll was prelly proud ol lhal senlence.l Yes, lhere was. We were especially prom- inenl in alhlelics lhis year. Five ol our boys, Bill Seidman, Doug Moore, Wes Slonehouse, Dick Williams, and Claude Youdan, received maior lellers in loolballf' l looked properly impressed. And lhen we had lour girls on lhe badminlon leam. And lhey were represenled on lhe baskel- ball learn, loof' 'A wonderlul accomplishmenl, no less, I saicl, playlully, pul subsided inlo wounded silence al lhe look l received.
