STUDENT director, Debby Hemme, presents director A! Marco with gifts from the band members during the Winter Concert. Despite Cuts Band Earns Top Ratings ENROLLMENT in band classes was cut in half this year because of curtailments caused by successive mil- lage defeats last year. Nevertheless 80 musicians comprised the Concert band and presented concerts and, after an absence of one year, participated in the District Band festival held at Royal Oak high school. Students who could not fit band into their schedules under the new cut-back program met three nights a week after school with director Al Marco to continue their musical studies. A volunteer Marching band was also formed and took part in Western Michigan university's homecoming festivities where it was honored with a second place award. The band also presented colorful half-time shows at the football games and marched in the Veter- ans and Memorial day parades. Soloists who contributed their talents to the two scheduled concerts were: Ron Rose, french horni Sharon Chabot, flute: Dave Regan, trumpet: and Debra Hemme, oboe. Performing as a trombone trio were Richard Bichel, Ken Barrand, and Gary Graham. With the passage of the millage proposal in January, the Wind Ensemble is scheduled for reinstatement next year, providing two bands as in past years. 'fi 25
