Irish Cagers Won No Titles But Still Had Winning Year SHAMROCK cagers experienced a furious and frustrating year in the 1959-60 basketball season. With a little bit of luck behind them in the beginning, the Irish battled their way into sole possession of first place in the Eastern Michigan league. However, in the second half of the season, they suffered an almost complete reversal, win- ning only two and dropping five. This forced the green and white squad into unfamiliar fifth place in the EML. In tournament play, things seemed cheerful after a TO to 56 romp over South Lake. Roseville was the only obstacle between the Sham- rocks and their second consecutive district trophy. Despite the two sound thrashings, the Wildcats received earlier in the season by the Irish, they roared back to upset the defending regional champions by three points, 51-48. The greatest single game scoring spree was the final game of the season when they scored 82 points against Port Huron for the largest total in five years. 24 SEASON SCORES East Detroit Roseville East Detroit Grosse Pointe East Detroit Ferndale East Detroit Birmingham East Detroit Ml, Clemens East Detroit R.0.
