Sing . the i l H fi it , , I t J i Our Band ls Versatile Playing Bach, Blues, And Bongos PERFORNIANCE5 of the hand this year saw T5 musicians take the stage or footlwall field. as the largest band ever to be assemlvlf-rl by East Detroit high. Quality was not ova-rsliadowed hy quantity, how- ever. At the county hand festival the band earned an 'tExcellent rating. missing SuperiorH by only one point. The marching hand performed this year at all home football games as wt-ll the away game in Mt. Pep Band . ng made famous by Benny Goodman and his band. be- came almost as popular as the school song this year. One of the reasons was the spirited version presented by the Pep band at pep meetings and bas- t 3 ketball games. usually by pop- . ular demand. Pictured at right are some of the members of the pep band who momentarily set down their instruments to cheer the team to its upset win over Ferndale. Clemens. Nlemliers also had the thrill of performing with approximately 12.000 other high school musicians at Band llay at the Lvniversity of Michigan. ln addition to the regular concerts. the lianrl also participated in local parades. It would be safe to state that the 1958-59 hand had a big. colorful. musically successful season! 1 -.ll H '
