Wanilzi Dolvrowolski. i959 Student Council ls Spirited Organization STUDENT COUNCIL activities at East Detroit high are not limited to the ordinary functions of student government. This group sponsors several of the top social events of the year, namely the Homecoming dance. and the Cinderella and Coronation Balls. Other activities this year were the Coke for Clintonw campaign. a clothing drive for needy children, and the origination of a college scholarship fund. The Council voted to offer a S300 scholarship to a June graduate who plans to attend a metropolitan Dctroit college. The money for the fund comes from activities sponsored by the organization. STUDENT government leaders were on hand to welcome the head of the State government, G, Xlennen Williams. when he visited East Detroit high school in the fall. STUDVNTS received individual report cards in each subject this year. Some. the-reforfr. carried home a handful of good news, while others had the unhappy task of preparing parents for multiple shocks. new ' -Q' BOOKS become a key topic during the opening days of school. Hundreds are stacked into the waiting arms of students who take them to the individual classrooms for distribution. Danny Klug and ,lerry Nord wait while Mrs. Hogg adds a few more to the load. MIDNIGHT is early to quit studying for some students and it was dif- ficult for many to obey the rigid timing of a school day . . . beginning with the morning alarm. David Wamer slaves far into the night in an attempt to pass that class that he just can't seem to comnrehend.
