liOfClosing Closing. Basically, it's a negative concept, dealing with facing an end. Which is true, because This is The end of the yearbook. And, when you receive lt. it's also the end of the school year. Much time has passed, and now the play is over - the only people left are those clearing the stage for The next show. Of course. facing the end of something almost always causes a person to remember what he went Through To get there. No matter who you are. just a glance at one picture will cause you to do that, so you may as well just sit down and concentrate on the memories. When you opened this book. The first picture to greet you was a sunrise. Photographed about a miie from the campus, if foretold a Theme that covers every page -M that ECBC was Looking Up, Whether you realized it or not, this theme became the "spark" needed to make everything come I alive. As you read onward, all that you glanced at was deepened by fond recollections. The Opening section served to remind you of what you looked forward to as a student., and gave you an overall picture of life at the College. But, it jsut allowed a glance at the highlights, so you moved on. Alter all, you were anxious to get to the Classes section to see how your "Mug shot" turned out Cgo ahead and admit it - what you really wanted to see was the motorcycle on page 123. Then. after looking to see what was said about your teachers in the Faculty section, you wandered Through The Sports section to see how well a friend did in Basketball Volleyball or Soccer - or maybe you only wanted To see yourself getting clobbered on the lnlramurals page. Anyway, you moved on from there to the Organizations section fo notice your club picture fond 33 ...rs M V ul SN r.. Nfl? A 'is' if 'ii zu 'van' Q '11 ,462 T. Sometimes, it's not easy to do certain things. For example, in writing copy for this yearbook, I had to take intci consideration factors like a. the event had to be covered in a positive manner: b. the theme of the book and the: section theme needed to match, c. copy should be both interesting and Informative to the reader: on top of thisi d. it had to "fit" just right. In comparison, it was like trying to build a new model toy using only a pictureof an older one as a guide. Still, it had to be done on time, and I was basically on my own. If you did read the copy, you might have noticed some of those things. Though achieving the balance between the "serious" and the "funny" took considerable effort, I feel like I did a decent job of it. Maybe you don't, but if you find an error, I'll refer you to my successor. Although there were others involved in the production of this book Qand they are mentioned belowj, most of if! was done alone Qyes, that's why I seemed to be in Xenonland at timesj. It was plenty of work - on the surface: it seems easy. But, a closer look will prove otherwise. And, it was difficult, considering what I went through as Ci senior preparing for grad school. Some might remember me not "being around" much because I worked 25-351 hours per week. Maybe that's why I didn't win a Superlatlve or get recognition as Class Valedlctorian or earn some other award. Receiving such an honor would've been nice: yet, my reward is knowing I did my best ana being able to have something to show for it. , I had the craziest thought once, and It more or less "inspired" me to name this page The Last Word - get thi! - I truly do get to say the last thing, and in society, the person who does, wins. Alter all the speeches are made, awards are given, and recognition is meted out, I get to leave an indelible mark In history. You see, one day down the road, all those things will be forgotten - memories fade, titles become as dreams, and trophies gather dust. As long as one copy of the Yearbook remains to be read years down that road, however, l do I' the last word, and so l've truly won - for this book l've produced will shape memories and impressions of E1 for a long, long time. Maybe it ls a crazy thought, but I like lt. V g A V, , , , The list of people I wish I could thank would not fit on this page unless the print was microscopic land it's s enough alreadyj. Everyone l've ever met has influenced my thinking In one way or another, from the guy I 9 directions to once, to a special Californian who l'Il never forget - so I'Il just say "Thank You" to all of you. some deserve special recognition, as follows: 1. God - for being loving enough to allow me to suffer all the growing pains 2. Mike Jenkins - he gave me his best effort in the midst of an incredible situation 3. Nick Lewis and Jim Boles - Allen Funt would've been proud 4. Terry Boswell and Carrie Jenkins - two very patient typists 5. "Tammy" Sue Baker - another of the "patient few" 6. Richard Blanco - God moved you to buy that camera of yours for a good reason 7. Sammy Oxendlne - for the ads, scholarship, and signing my dlpioma " i"'ii A ' 8. Rev. Aaron Phillips - again for thefuse of your 9. Aimee Amorose, Shern Smith, and are forever 10. Bob Guy - I wish we were yet? 11. The ECBC Student Body - There's so much more that lt's been a great four
