Seniors Dedicate Echo To Coach Zielasko The members of the senior class voted overwhelmingly to dedicate this years ECHO to Coach Doug Zielasko. The popular senior from Brazilia Brazil, however, finds American ways different from things back home. In Brazil he com- ments, there are no study- halls and they attend school six days a week. Students also dress differently in Brazil, no tee shirts and jeans. Ovideo, whose hobbies in- clude reading, checkers, ping-pong, socker, karate, and swimming, plans to be a doctor. Gym is nis favorite subject at ECHS, but what he likes best about America, according to Ovideo, is the girls! Golf Team, led by senior co-cap- tains Toby Weiland and Tim King, ended its 1976 season with a 4-17 record. The team, which started 3 golfers who never played var- sity before, had very little depth and played in a very experienced and very good Senate League. The team show- ed improvement through- out the year and is looking forward to a suc- cessful 1977 season with the return of golfers, such as sophomores Rod John and Bob Jozwiakow- ski, both who shot a round of 1 over par as sophomores. 53 The 19 76 E.C. Cross Country Team proved to be the best in the team's history, end- ing the season with a 10-6 record. Lead- ing the way was Jr., State gualifier, Den- ny Varian who won every oval he ran ex- cept one, Jr., first year man Roger Oliver, and Sr. Captain Han- ley Wheeler who was the first 4-year let- terman in the team's history. Ken Smith, Head Coach DougZielasko, Capt. Van Harvey The 1977 varsity, lead by seniors Tony Grace, Van Harvey, Steve Mark, and Kenny Smith, made their mark by bringing home East Canton's first AA sec- tional championship. The cagers outstanding season, with an overall record of 16 wins and 5 losses, was the best since the 1970-71 season. A league mark of 11 and 3 also earned the team second place in a rough Senate League. Coach Zielasko attributes the team's success to great team attitude, hard work by all, especially in the summer, and balance, with all starters finishing the season averaging in double figures. The team is quick to add, however, that excellent coaching was also a key ingredient. REGULAR SEASON E. Canton 52 Strasburg 68 E. Canton 81 Rootstown 60 E. Canton 84 Central 75 E.
