The hornets recorded their best season in recent years with a 3-6 record. The hornets didn't retain the Class A crown but did have the leading scorer in Class A competition with Glenn Gailey. The team scored a lopsided 22-0 victory at the homecoming game against the then undefeated Strasburg Tigers. The homecoming victory was the first in more than a decade. The Queen was crowned before the kickoff. She was chosen by the student body and foot- ball team as the 63-64 homecoming queen and was escorted by Senior Bob Farnsworth. East Canton was fortunate in placing three boys on the Class A Dream Team. Glenn Gailey, highest scorer in East Canton history was chosen at half back, Bob Farnsworth at end, and Alan Fisk at Quarterback, Steve Oyler received an honorable mention at the tackle position. At the banquet Glenn Gailey was chosen most valuable player, Bob Farnsworth most valuable offensive linemen, Jim Crumrine most valuable defensive back, and Dean Varian most valuable defensive linemen. HIGH SCHOOL: A 70-dollar-a-day job If you have a friend who is thinking of dropping out of high school, ask him this question: Would you continue if you were paid $70.a day until graduation?” Statistics show that the average high school graduate earns $50,000 more during his life than the average eighth grade graduate. It breaks down to this: Four years of high school equals 720 days. Each day spent earning a diploma is worth $70. And that doesn’t include addi- tional income from summer employment. What’s more, jobs traditionally open to non-graduates are rapidly disappearing. The unemployment rate among non-graduates is 2V2 times that of the average high school graduate. The tragedy of it all is pointed out by the United States Chamber of Commerce. It reports that the number of openings for skilled jobs in the U. S. almost equals the number of unskilled, unemployed persons. This nation’s industry and business need trained people by the thousands. What’s wrong with getting that train- ing in high school at a rate of $70 a day (in future in- come)?
