Art Club Displaying their,creative efforts in the field of art, the Art Club sponsored the annual art show for the Thunderbird Dinner. The club was composed mainly of Art ll and Art lll students. Mrs. Mary Chatterton assisted as faculty advisor. Club work was displayed at the Christmas Alumni Tea. Members of Art Club also took part in the Pop Culture Week un-art show. Spring projects included the sponsoring of an invitational art exhibit. Noted area artists were asked to display a sampling of their paintings for judging by the student body. The students' choice was then purchased for the school's permanent collection. Debate Club Under the leadership of Robert Ortalda, president, Debate Club renewed its dedication to development of speaking skills. While considering topics of current interest during meetings and holding inter-club de- bates at East, the members also had outside activities. One of these was the annual Speech Festival, in which East competed against West, Dimond, and Chugiak. Debate Club was organized into four teams of two members each for inter-school contests. Topics were varied and emphasis was placed mainly on persuasive skill. Of particular interest to East's debaters was the National Debate Topic. This year it was Resolved: that the United States should establish a system of national service for all citizens. Pros and cons were enthusiastically debated under the guidance of Mr. Dale Magstadt, sponsor.
