ADMINISTRATION In 1852 the spot where Earlham H1gh School now stands was a part of the m1dwestern plams Instead of the laughter of cluldren on the playground the cheer of football fans on the gr1d 1ron the hum of act1v1ty 1n classrooms there was only the rustle of the w1nd caressmg the grassy earth perhaps an occasmnal sound of hoofs of horses r1dden by Ind1an or wh1te man or the crackmg and squeak1ng of a covered wagon carryxn 1ts occupants to new adventures an homes In less than one hundred years we now have paved roads telephones televlsxon planes travehng faster than sound frozen foods fabr1cs made rn a laboratory and thousands of other 1tems or blesslngs that we accept but never th1nk about Thls progress has been so rap1d and wonderful because our forefathers bel1eved ln an educat1on for the common man as well as for the wealthy Tomorrow w1l1 be a world of space sh1ps mterplanetary travel atom1c than we have ever xmagmed It can be a world of peace and happ1ness Earlham Hrgh School 15 1n exlstence for the sole purpose of tra1n1ng all young people who s1t 1n 1ts classrooms to be better cltlzens 1n the wonderful future We who know you thmk that you can make the next hundred years even better C Arthur Hansen Super1ntendent Democracy 15 dependen upon the educat1on of 1ts Youth Iam sure th1s IS true So I say to you the Youth of today take advantage of your opportumty now It's later than you th1nk James F Hemphxll Pr1nc1pal ...I iii ii' A'T'Li-i1 ll - ' .
