The Student Council is a very active organi- zation which has proved to be essential in the operation of our school. It is composed of representatives from each high school grade, who work together with the faculty in solving any problems concerning the school which might arise. The members must maintain a B average and must constantly set a good 38 I- I example before their fellow students. The Student Council sponsors many of the schoo1's major activities, such as the Student Store, handbook, assemblies, the homecoming pro- gram, and the annual Valentine Social- This organization also purchases many necessary articles for the school. This year, for the first time, the council sponsored annual Career Day. The requirements for membership in this Club are evidence of an outstanding ability in leadership and a general co-operative spirit, and an average of 88 in scholarship. A list of eligible students is presented to the club members. From this list, they select the best qualified students who are then ap- proved by the faculty. The candidates chosen for membership are then tapped at a candle- light program. Under the able leadership of Mrs. W, R. The 1954 football season was even more suc- cessful than the 1953 season. The E. M. Holt Wildcats rolled over five consecutive oppon- ents without being scored on and took the first Mid-State Championship. The season ended with our team having gone undefeated in eight contests. The team scored 175 points, while holding opposition to 13 points. This gave an average of 21.6 to 1.6 points per game. Advancing to the state playoffs, The Wild- cats lost a tight game to Edenton by a 27 to 20 score. The Wildcats have now gone through two undefeated seasons in a row, running their consecutive winning streak to seventeen games. E. M, Holt, coached by Richard G. fBudJ Phillips, boasts one of the strongest teams in the state. Four of the E. M. Holt Wildcats were placed on the all Mid-State Team. They were full- back, Sambo Sharpe, who received the most valuable player award for the Holt Team. Co-captains Larry Isley and Walter Hanford, and Don Isley also received the honor of being on the all Mid-State Team. J. C. Fogleman was voted the most improved Holt player, while Larry Loy was honored for having shown best sportsmanship. Holt 25 ........ ...... B ethel Hill 0 Holt 14 ...... ...... A lex.
