61444 JI' 1-1 As the month of August, 1939, drew to a close, the class of '43 started the adventure of high school as freshmen. With Miss Lovejoy to guide us through that first trying year, we chose as our president, Donald Michaels: vice-president, Jeannette Wladleigh: secretary, Margaret VVeldong treasurer, Dorothy Riber. Then we became sophomores and were glad of it, tool No longer could we be classed as green freslnnen. As sophomores we selected for the office of president, Gilbert Kamm: vice- president, Oluf Lund: secretary-treasurer, Julia Ricolo. Mr. Haegele was our sponsor. ln February we held a party in the lower hall. Of course there was a noticeable improvement shown in our dancing as we became more experienced in the art. In the fall of 1941 we became juniors and were definitely classed in the upper bracket of the school society. Our junior leaders were Tris Mcliinney, presidentg Phyllis Ifrederisy, vice- presidentg Doris Robinson, secretaryg and Gilbert Kamm, treasurer. Miss Mc- Clelland was our sponsor until the second semester, when she left D. T. H. S. Miss Chewning then became our adviser. Growing Pains was the name of our junior play given in December. The cast included Eleanor Hayes, Oluf Lund, Iris McKinney, Doten llush, Nancy Lewis, Dorothy Paulsen, Jewell Armes, Miriam Burkhart, Shirley Reeb, Richard liillings, joe Ruder, William Call, Herbert Drew, Donald Michaels, Lucille Flint, Anna Porth, Rosemary Cruise, and John Metzke. Our biggest moment of the year was the Junior-Senior Reception, known to all as the Prom . May 23 was the date of our farewell to the seniors of 1942. This year we chose Doten Rush, president: Herbert Drew, vice-president: Nancy Lewis, secretary: and Iris Mcliinney, treasurer. Miss Hunter became our senior adviser. To earn money we sold magazines and Christmas wreaths, held many mixers, and sold candy at the games. Eleanor Hayes was voted the editor of The Trojan News. Nancy Lewis was elected editor-in-chief of the '43 Rudder, a position which carried many responsibilities. Our representative in the D. A. R. Good Citizen contest was lris McKinney. Glenn Conschack was our senior essay contest winner for the American Legion Essay. The senior play was entitled The Imaginary Invalid . ln the cast were Oluf Lund, Eleanor Hayes, lris McKinney, Walter Komorowski, Nancy Lewis, Harvey llattrell, John Metzke, Donald Michaels, William Call, Trella Klingler, Gene Watters, and Herbert Drew.
