wC?f Z6WWMd Wwd0dWMZhQ9tZOZ. Master Chief Petty Officer CAir Warfareb Kenneth P. Mrnak was born in Chicago, Ill., on July 12, 1951. After high school he enlisted in the Navy in May 1969 and attended basic training at Recruit Training Center, Great Lakes, Ill. Upon graduation from basic training, he was assigned to USS Enterprise CCVN 65D until his honorable discharge in February 197 1 . In August 1976 he re-entered the Navy at the Navy Recruiting District, Baltimore, Md., and after a brief indoctrination process at Naval Station Norfolk, Va., was assigned to VF-101 FRAMP at NAS Oceana, Virginia Beach, Va., as a student under instruction. Master Chief Mrnak's next assignment was to the Tomcatters of VF-31, homeported at NAS Oceana, where he made two Mediterranean Sea deployments. While attached to VF-31 he advanced to the rate of aviation maintenance administrationman second class. After completing Data Analyst Class HC School in Memphis, Tenn., in November 1979, he reported for duty at NAS Oceana AIMD as the data analyst. VVhile assigned to AIMD he achieved the rate of aviation maintenance administrationman first class prior to his transfer in December 1982. He was then assigned to the Tophatters of VF-14 as the data analyst and maintenance admin leading petty officer, and made deployments to Grenada, the Mediterranean Sea and the Indian Ocean. . While assigned to VF-14 he advanced to chief petty officer and earned his enlisted aviation warfare specialist qualifica- tion. In October 1985 Master Chief Mrnak reported for duty as the data analyst and maintenance admin chief for Commander, Fighter Wing One, at NAS Oceana, Va. While assigned to Fighter Wing One, he was advanced to senior chief petty officer. In June 1988, he was selected and reported for duty with the Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron -- Blue Angels -- homeported at NAS Pensacola, Fla., as the enlisted applications officer, quality assurance senior chief. After his advance- ment to master chief petty officer, he was named as the maintenance master chief for the 1991 show season. Nearing the end of his tour with the Blue Angels, Master Chief Mrnak applied and was selected for the Command Master Chief Program. In December 1991 he reported for duty with the Sunday Punchers of VA-75, homeported at NAS Oceana, Va., and made a deployment to the Adriatic!Mediterranean seas. In September 1993 he reported to his present assignment as Commander, Carrier Air Wing Three, Command Master Chief. Master Chief Mrnak' s personal awards include the Navy Commendation Medal CGold Starj, the Navy Achievement Medal CGold Starj and numerous unit and campaign awards. He is married to the former Margaret Budahazy, and they reside in Virginia Beach, Va., with their three children: Michael, Terry and Billy.
