Captain E. W. Clexton, Jr. U.S. Navy Executive Officer Captain E. W. Clexton, Jr., a na- tive of Arlington, Va., graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1969. ln 1965, he attended the Naval Test Pilot School, Patuxent River, Md., and was later assigned to the Flight Test Division at the Naval Air Test Center. His major projects were as project pilot and Navy Pre- liminary Evaluation Team Leader for the F-4K and F-4M Phantom air- craft for the United Kingdom. As a result of his work, he was accepted as a member of the Society of Ex- perimental Test Pilots in 1968. Other tours of duty included serving as XO and CO of VF-102, as well as study at the U.S. Naval Nuclear Power School, Mare Island, Ca. Capt. Clexton reported to the IKE Precommissioning Unit as Executive Officer in October 1975 for a three year tour before as- suming command of USS EL PASO CLKA-1175. Capt. Clexton is married to the former Barbara Ann Wright of Ar- lington. They have five children, Eric, Zita, Eddie, Lisa and David.

Captain Eugene D. Conner, U.S. Navy Executive Officer Captain Eugene D. Conner, a 1957 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, earned his aviator wings in March 1959 before serving with squadrons VF-174 and VF-103 from 1959 to 1963. After attend- ing U.S. Navy Postgraduate School in 1966, he went to VF-121 for F-4 Phantom ll transition training be- fore serving with VF-213. From 1968 to 1970, Capt. Con- ner served as an instructor at the U.S. Naval Academy before serving as aircraft handling officer aboard USS HANCOCK CCVA 195. Other tours of duty included Executive Officer of VF-121, VF-151 and Com- manding Officer of VF-151 during the Vietnam conflict. Capt. Conner received additional training at the U.S. Naval War Col- lege, the U.S. Navy Nuclear Power School and the Division of Naval Reactors before reporting as Execu- tive Officer of IKE in September 1978. Capt. Conner is married to the former Joan Stewart of Waltham, Mass., and they reside in Virginia Beach with their three children, Mark, Michele and Karen. Af '
