Page 13 text:
I remember sunsets sitting on my lap
And their shadows iingering through my mind.
But now I am frozen,
I am feeling the blackbirds
Silhouetted in the empty trees above me,
Where the sunset's grasp reaches out,
Bluntly coloring only the high, green tops.
Yet I lie knowing
That I have given birth to my son, to myself,
To he who will roam with the opening buds
On the ends of the empty limbs.
And so, as I lie,
Withered and resigned,
There is satisfaction in my soul,
Yet having given in.
Acceptance was my final role.
Frailty, thy name is man, not woman. Who else is it who must succumb to his desires for sport? And
who else is allowed to slack his duties, breeding no dishonor? The world knows that man is an animal.
but must he have manners like the base creatures of the darkest earth? Since the very beginning of
mankind, the male has been justified in his actions: "Well, that's all part of progress," or "That's how
God made man," While women, who are logical and practical in their emotions, are considered
inconsistent and insensible in their actions. A woman is suppressed and is expected to be self
restrained. well, " have we not affections? desires for sport? and frailty, as men have? Then let
them use us well, else let them know: The ills we do, their ills instruct us so."
Still life taught a man's dreams
Dance to musical arms, fingers straining for notes
While his notes hammer flesh into bone.
A man's waxen product
Will capture Has captured
A woman's unpainted legs.
Bathing in still life
Has allowed droplets of sweat to capture his heart
Has allowed a tongue of need to capture
Pictures of legs
Still life bathes Still life cleanses
A woma.n's limbs
