I , DuVal Art Department offers not only excellent and qualified instruction but also various activities which encourage the student to become aware of the art which is a part of their everyday surroundings. Emphasis is placed on individual work rather than formal class, and the artistic-minded students are urged to use creative thinking in developing their own styles. 1 A The Department sponsors various clubs and the Sock I s and Sweater Hop. Music Department The Music Deparment, numbering over 600 students, is one of the most popular departments at DuVal. This is partly the result of the excellent reputation of all the music groups and partly the result of the enthusiasm of the three teachers-Mrs. Gallagher, Mrs, Shannon, and Mr. Nonnemacher. There is a music course to suit everyone's taste. Music Theory, Band, Choir, Q- Girls and Mixed Choruses, and General Music are offered as classes. Two groups that meet after school are the Madrigals and the Sing-Outs-DuVal's own extremely popular folk music group. Mrs. Lenore H. Gallagher l B.M.
