HIGH POINT 20-15 In the opening game of league play, DuVal rallied to hold the Eagles in each of the first two periodsg but half-time held the Eagles in a 14-0 margin over the defending champs. Our Tigers returned for .1 successful touchdown when Rick Heflin retrieved an Eagle fumble for a 5 yard run into DuVal's end zone.vAnother touch- down in the last quarter just wasnt enough to gain on the Eagles for DuVal's first upset. 242 , 13-1 JOHN CARROLL 19-6 The Carroll Lions were too powerful for the de- fending champs. A pass from Frank Fillman enabled Mike Belton to gain 114 yards for DuVal's only touchdown in their first play of the ga.me. The Lion's defense held strong while their offense wrapped up a 19-6 score at the game's end. DUVAL 27-6 Our Tigers rolled over Suitland for their first victory in Prince Ge-orge's A.A. League game. Mike Belton once again, with a 12 yard run, captures the first of four touchdowns before the half in our defense's greatest showing yet. Wayne Schmidt carried 41 for the second score with Chris Harwood running 3 and Richard Blancato running 1 for the victory which coasted over the Rams. W'ayne Schmidt, on the 25 yard line, catches the ball only to be hlocked by a Suitland Ram

3 21,59 DuVa1's offense line-up awaits the results of the first kick-off along the sidelines of the Oxon Hill game . .. Bob Anderson, Thomas Giles, Dave Cowley, Frank Fillman, Rick Heflin, Roger Bort, john Ferguson, jeff Synan. ST. JOHN'S 42-0 The Cadets marched off with DuVal's biggest upset of the season. DuVal's big- gest threat came in the second quarter at St. john's 12 when Tiger Frank Fillman carried 41 and 23 yards as the Tigers moved from their own 21 yard line. Their defense held up to zero scoreage while our offense rallied end- lessly to hold the powerful Cadets in a hopeless battle. OXON HILL 25-12 This was the Clippers first win over the Mighty Tigers since 1961. They built a lead of 19-0 at the end of the second period while DuValians watched with hopes of victory as our Frank Fillman ran 65 yards for one of DuVal's touch- downs, and passing 57 yards to Wayne Schmidt for the other. This was the Tiger's second loss in league play with their fourth setback in five games-but DuValians knew our Mighty Tigers would give extra effort in the next, all important Northwestern game. NORIHWESTERN 33-6 Our Tigers just didn't have enough of steam as the Northwestern Wild- cats ran five touchdowns with extra points to overcome the Tigers in their second upset of the season. After an attempted Wildcat inter- ception, Wayne Schmidt proves true with .the Tiger's ball on the 20 yard line. On the next play, Wayne again performs in the Tiger tra- dition for our only touchdown of the game. 4 9? ri. - , 4 '-fi t fsf. 4 o- jeff Synan gains yardage against North western. 243 ti-1
