Mrs. Alice Alexander English Department English, the largest and most important department at DuVal, is the basis for high school Curriculum. Sophomores are introduced to World Literature. Juniors are exposed to American Literature while the Senior English course centers around British Litera- ture. Yet these are only the beginning, only the basic survey courses. A review of modern grammar concepts and usages is presented and all derive their material from the literature courses. Designed for students with creative writing abilities, Advanced Composition empha- sizes expository writing and a logical thought process. An introductory journalism course prepares students for creative work on either The DuValian the school paper, the literary magazine, or the Safari yearbook. Selected students attended a series of six evening seminars during the year. These seminars proved to be an opportunity for attending lectures and discussions led by recognized scholars, authors, and others well-versed in topics of interest to the student. '?
