Schmidt TO THE STUDENTS: It is a pleasure to have this opportunity to greet the students of DuVal Senior High School and offer congratulations to the members of the Class of 1967. As this school year draws to a close, you will, undoubtedly, want to review the progress you have made and the possibilities for further education and training in terms of the plans for your future career. XVhateyer your ultimate success may be, you well know that it will de- pend to a great degree upon the integrity with which you perform your individual responsibilities and your acceptance of certain obliga- tions to your fellowman. The world abounds with opportunities but success may be elusive unless you are willing to accept the necessary discipline, complete preliminary study and training, and face the chal- lenges that make each day exciting and rewarding through honest and patient effort. ffm. ,,'x. .,-. r. Chase TO THE CLASS OF 1967- More than ever in the history of our country We find ourselves charged with the responsibility and duty to preserve our democratic Way of life. As man journeys through the various phases of his continuous education, he comes to realize that, as a human race, we can be brilliant in mind and still be brutish and cruel. The world today is in a state of disrepair, Man's faith in himself is being severely tested. Man has the capabilities of learning from the past, to take heed of the present and prepare for the future. To preserve our democratic way of life, we must learn to recognize the dignity of the individual. One does not have to agree with another in order to keep from hurting him. But by recognizing the dignity of the individual, disagreement can occur without harm to either party. The human race is not quite what it should be. But the human race possesses the possibilities of becoming what We would prefer it to be. g Let us begin by being responsible individuals and by respecting the dignity of others.
