Lieutenant Commander James R. Booth attended Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama graduating in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science degree in BiologyfChemistry. Upon graduation Lieutenant Booth moved to Rockford, Illinois where he taught high school math and science. After four years of teach- ing school, he joined the Navy in 1978 and received his commission through Officer Candidate School, New- port, Rhode lsland in 1979. Lieutenant Commander Booth's first tours of duty included Main Propulsion Assistant and First Lieutenant for the USS Sampson CDDG-105 homeported in Mayport, Florida. He was NROTC Instructor atFl'orida A 81 M University in Tallahassee, Florida from 1985 to 1984. Lieutenant Commander Booth completed the Surface Warfare Oflicer Department Head course at Surface Warfare Officer School, Newport, Rhode Island in 1985 and was assigned as Engineer Oflicer in Mayport, Florida and later changed homeport to Charleston, South Carolina. Following his tour as Engineer Officer, he was assigned as Damage Control Assistant of the USS America KCV-669 homeported in Norfolk, Virginia from March 1987 to December 1989. Lieutenant Commander Booth attended the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Califomia receiving his Master of Science degree in Computer Information Systems Management in 1991 prior to his assignment as Executive Oflicer USS DURHAM. Lieutenant Commander Booth has been awarded the Navy Commendation Medal, as well as several cam- paign and service awards. He is married to the former Peggy Tumer of Miami, Florida. The Booth's have live children between them, Khalfani, Kefentse, Jayson, Ryan and Justin.
