Capt. Ed ard M. Kline Captain Edward M. Kline attended the University of Idaho graduating in 1967 with a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics. Upon graduation he received his commission through the NROTC program. Captain Kline's first tours of duty included Combat Infonnation Center Officer for the USS BRISTER QDER 5277 and Boat Group Commander aboard the USS NAVARRO QLPA 2157. He attended the naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Califomia during 1970 and 1971, receiving a Master of Science degree in Oceanography upon graduation. Following training at the Naval Destroyer School in Newport, Rhode Island, Captain Kline was assigned as Operations Officer of the USS TURNER JOY CDD 9519 after which he took command of the USS HITCHITI CATF 59 from September 1975 until August 1977. After serving as the Senior Staff Officer for Surface Operations for Commander Canadian Maritime Forces, Pacific in Victoria, British Colombia, Captain Kline retumed to San Diego to serve as Executive Officer, USS FORT FISHER QLSD 403. He was then assigned as Operations Officer for Commander Amphibious Squadron Three prior to being assigned as commissioning Commanding Officer of USS GERMANTOWN QLSD 423 from March, 1985 until May 1988. ' Captain Kline was then assigned to Commander Surface Forces Atlantic Fleet as Force Plans Officer and Fleet Introduction Officer. He next attended the Naval War College's international class at the Naval Com- mand College in Newport, Rhode Island where he received a M.A. degree in National Security and Strategic Studies prior to his assignment as Commanding Officer USS DURHAM. Captain Kline has been awarded two Meritorious Service Metals, two Navy Commendation Medals, as well as several campaign and service awards.
