Executive Officer LCDR John A. Martin Lieutenant Commander Martin was born in Aomori, Japan on June 1, 1955. In June 1978 he graduated from the Univer- sity of Washington and received his com- mission as an Ensign. Later that year he reported to his first ship, USS HIGBEE CDD-8061, as DCA and Engineering Ad- min Officer. In August of 1979, after com- pleting the Surface Warfare Officer School Basic Course in Newport, R.I., LCDR Martin reported aboard USS FRANCIS HAMMOND QFF-10665 as Main Propulsion Assistant. In May 1984, he reported for duty at Fleet Training Group, Pearl Harbor. Following Depart- ment Head School, LCDR Martin was as- signed to CINCPACFLT Propulsion Ex- amining Board, where he screened for Ex- ecutive Officer. He became DURHAM's Executive Officer in October, 1990. LCDR Martin and his wife Debra have three sons, Joshua, Jason, and Jordon. The Martin family resides in Santee, Califor- ma.

Command Master Chief MMCMQSWD Lawrence J. Young Master Chief Machinist's Mate Young was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He enlisted in the Navy in September 1971 and reported to his first ship, the USS MOUNT WHITNEY CLCC-203 in December 1971. Four years later, he transferred to the USS Denver, CLPD-91 for a two year tour. Master Chief Young moved on to the USS BLUE RIDGE CLCC-191 in the spring of 1978, and to instructor duty the following year. He returned to sea to decommission the USS POINT DEFI- ANCE CLSD-311 in January 1981, and then went on to tours aboard the USS ENGLAND QCG-221 and USS LEAHY QCG-161. In June 1989, shortly after advancing to Master Chief, he returned to shore duty as MPA for the 1200 lb. training plant at Service Schools Command, Great Lakes. Mas- ter Chief Young reported to USS DURHAM as Command Master Chief in July 1990. Master Chief Young has earned an unlimited Chief Engineer License and is working toward his Bachelor's Degree through Navy Campus.
