LCDR McManis 'was born in Pickwick Dam, Tennesee
on 3 October 1937. He received his BA Degree from the
University of the South, Sewanee, Tennesee, in June
1960 and was commissioned following completion of OCS
in January 1961. His initial assignment was to the USS
RANDOLPH lCVS-15l followed by a tour in Officer Pro-
girlement at the U.S. Naval Recruiting Station. Cleveland,
From October 1964 to November 1966, LCDR McManis
served as Communications Officer on the USS BEXAR
lAPA-2371 which was a unit of PHIBRON ONE. Upon
completion of Naval Destroyer School in September 1967
he was assigned to the USS O'HARE lDD-889l as Op-
erations Officer. A tour in OPNAV in ACNO Communica-
tions from 1969 through 1971 was followed by attending
the Naval Postgraduate School at Monterey, California,
where he received a Nlaster of Science Degree in man-
agement with a communications subspecialty. He reported
for duty aboard the DURHAM in August of 1973 during

CDR Walter Wallis, a native of California graduated
from the University of Southern California in 1961. He
was commissioned an Ensign on 8 June 1961 and frocked
to the rank of Commander on October 15, 1975.
Upon commissioning in June 1961, CDR Wallis re-
ported to the USS NAVARO QAPA-2151 until June 1963
when he attended Destroyer School Class Number Seven
at Newport, Rhode Island. Upon completion of Destroyer
School he was assigned to USS MYLES C. FOX lDD-829l
until June 1966 at which time he attended the American
University, Washington, D.C. and received a Masters
Degree in International Relations.
In July 1967, CDR Wallis reported as an Aide and
Flag Lieutenant to Commander Naval Forces Japan and
in July 1969 vims ordered to the U.S. Naval Advisory
Group, Republic of Vietnam. Upon detachment as Senior
Advisor, River lnterdiction Division FORTY in July 1970,
he served on the Staff of Commander Naval Forces Viet-
nam until detachment in November 1970 with orders to the
USS EL DORADO lLCC-11l as Operations Officer.
CDR Wallis returned to Washington in 1972 where he
served in the office of the Chief of Naval Operations,
Amphibious Warfare Plans and Programs, until November
1974. He reported on board USS DURHAM in January
1975 for duty as USS DURHAM's Executive Officer.
CDR Wallis is married to the former Kathleen Smith
of Granada Hills, California and they are the parents of
four children, Mark, Karen, Michelle. and Julia.
