But California excited everyone to some degree. Each person had his own varied reason, whether it was the sun, women, surf, oranges, or Disneyland. They had all agreed that California was a happening. It was where people were going and they all wanted to see it at least once or once again. . California is the most populated state in the union with over 19,000,000 people. The state was named by the Spanish Conquista- dores, California being the name of an imaginary island near the earthly paradise in Las Sergesde Esplandian , a romance of chivalry written by lVlontalvo in 1510.
