S . Seniors return to l3.ll.S. and lord it over Sophomores and lumors. Empty halls rcsound with the echoes ol- many leet and voices. Parade through town introduces the football season. Tempest over sclic-dale adjustments is quieted. Every member ol' the l'lI-Rlltililfl' works hard on first issue. Nfany hard and dillicult tasks lace our new dean of boys, C. S. I looper. Best team in Oxford game-Durham-by a margin of 40-o. Entire school plunges into combination ticket sales-results: over l,ooo soldl Regular and new members of MEsst2NoEt4 labor over ro4o annual. Oh boyl Halloween! The spooks nearly got me. C. S. P. A. awards lirst place to 1939 NIESSENGER. Hurrah for our side! Thanks to Miss Rogers and her boys the Coop party was a big success. Orchids to the Iunior Needlework Cuild for a line job of collect- ing garments. Boys and girls of D. H. S. regret missing school in order to attend the State Fairl Entire Senior class struggles over State Achievement tests. Roanoke gains the lead alter nip-and-tuck on the home stretch. North Carolina State Student Council Congress comes to Durham. Oh, which picture is the least worst? Victtmry to the team las usualj. Eastern title copped by Durham High after laerce struggles. Morct praise to Coroso players for another record-breaking success! Book VVeek trips up on us again. Encore for that Thanksgiving turkey! Rah! Our lootballers bring the bacon home again-this time it's the state title. Dont forget our well-presented Christmas pageant. Every D.H.S. student deserts his lessons to do his Christmas shopping. Christmas Carols are sung by the D. H. S. choristers at the annual program at the First Baptist Church. Empty stomachs are lalled with Christmas goodies. Merry Christmas dances enjoyed by all. Basketball draws us all out to that gorgeous new Duke gym. Early games, and as a matter of fact every game, won by our boys. 0 Jumps become slips-thanks to an abundance of ice and snow. Aches become headaches as exams take the day. Numbers see Russ Perry win the football trophy as the most valu- able player. Under lights of new Duke gym our basketball players win fame anew. And second semester gets olf to a good start in spite of Hu wave. Rings and pictures cause luniors to look upon tops of Sophof mores' heads. Yesterday footballQtoday basketball. Friday afternoon socials keep the gym Hoor littered with scratches. Everyone turns out to review the annual Student Talent Show. Busv meetings of societies and clubs as the members elected new . 1 leaders. Rah for our wrestling champions-winners of the State Cham- pionshipl Unique ability displayed by school actors in the tragedy, The 171' ez'1'zt1He Hour. All D.H.S. Seniors are bereaved by the death of a classmate. Dorothy Davis. Ready as ever to help D. H. S., Dr. Alan Manchester speaks at P.-T. A. Young jitterbugs cut capers at the Leap Year dances. Millions of laughs resulted from the tales told by our basketball boys upon their return from a victorious trip to Glens Falls. All aboard who are going to embark upon the steamer graduation! Radiant faces breeze in from North and South as D.H. S. delef gates return from Florida and New York. Congratulations to Ht-Roekm on winning All Columbian and Medalist at C. S. P. A. Heading for the last months of our dear ole high school days and nights. Apparently spring fever has got us. NVe all feel it. Posies begin to brighten once dreary class rooms. Remarkable play. Gfumour in Poconos, presented by Iuniors, re- ceived by appreciative audiences. Incessant rains fail to dampen our spirits.
