Mr. Keith Harrison Recessional I I to I SENIOR CLASS HISTORY Turning back the clock of time, we find ourselves being pushed and shoved like any other sophomore class. At our first class meeting we elected the officers for the year. They were Tom Davis, Presidentg Blake Benham, Vice- President, Kristine VVard, Secretary-Treasurer. Mr. Novy and Mr. Morrison were elected sponsors. The theme for the Sophomore Prom was Somewhere Over the Rainbow. Gradually we learned to push and shove right back and found our- selves Iuniors. Our Junior Class Officers were Tommy Bennett, Presidentg Larry Edwards, Vice-President, Sharon Baer, Secretary-Treasurer. Mr. Dilley and Mr. Moeny were elected sponsors. This year we sponsored the only prom of the year and chose as our theme Neopolitian Nights. Ah! The big pushers and shovers at last! We entered our senior year with Larry Edwards, Presidentg llolm Cook, Vice-Presidentg Bill Miernyk, Treasurerg Karen Myers, Secretaryg and Carla Miller, Sergeant at Arms. Mr. Hollar and Mr. Brown were given the honor of sponsoring the class of '59. One of our first activities was to dress ourselves fit to kill and take over the school for Tacky Day. Then, as our minds turned toward the future, we found ourselves listening to the professors from different schools as they called at DHS for College Day. The seniors sponsored a wonderful Homecoming Dance for football season where Kay Cunningham was crowned queen. Patty Haffey and Nancy Wong were her attendants. The class was prominently displayed when the Drama De- partment did The Skin of Our Teeth as the first play of the year. The big event was the Basketball Homecoming where Jackie Prior reign- ed as queen with Teddy Wilson and Joanne Havel as her attendants. Last, but not least, we come to the Case of the Vanashing Seniors. Running around in our bermuda shorts, taking pictures of anything and anybody that happened to come into range of our camera lens, laughing, giggling, and drink- ing pop, we had a wonderful Senior Sneak Day. The year was appropriately topped off when Edith Ann McGregor and julie McKenzie were announced as the top students of the Class of '59. Blake Benham was chosen Mr. Athlete by the coaches. Remembering all these things as we walk across the stage to receive our diplomas and to shake the hand of Mr. Buckley, we know that we have received first class tickets to the future and success. KAY CUNNINGHAM BECKY TAYLOR, NICK NOSSAMAN, JOANNE GRAY, MRS. HAWLEY-SPONSOR STUDENT COUNCIL ACTIVITIES GF THE YEAR I The Student Council is thel link between students and faculty, between scllzool and public. The council organizes student activities and programs in the sc oo . 1 The membership is made uplof representatives from each club and class. By narrowing the membership this yearg a high degree of efficiency has been obtained. Officers for the 1958-1959 school year are Skip Wells, presidentg Tom Nichols, vice-president, Ida Zink, secretary, and Larry Edwards, Treasurer. During the year the council sent representatives to meetings in Pagosa Sprin s, Ignacio, Mancos, the VVestern Slope Conference in Grand Junction, and Becfcy Taylor attended the state meetin in Fort Collins. Early in the year the Council took over the school activities calendar, arranging fund raising activities for each club represented in the Council. Also, several programs were made available for the fifth floating eriod on Fridays. The Homecoming parade was efficiently handled by the Councill with prizes for club floats given by the school board and the Quarter- back Club. Everyone enjoyed the iChristmas party which was arranged by Tom Nichols. At Christmastime, too, with the help of several students, the school dis- played some very effective lightingf On College Days, Phil Crabtree and Margie Mclntyre were in charge of receivin the visiting students and serving coffee. Noon dances were arranged by the Council and through the assiduous efforts of Phil Crabtree, several parking meters have been made available to students who drive their cars to school. I In the first semester a dashing talent show was resented to the school under the capable direction of Teddy VVilson. The Whole Council with the help of the music and dramatics departments presented the Varsity Show in the Spring. Student Council VVeek was observed by publishing articles in the newspapers and Kay Cunningham was in charge of the honor assembly which recognized many students for special activities and ho ors. The Constitution, after being carefully revised by Kristine VVard, Joanne Cray, Dick jessing, and john Cook, was a cepted by the student body. The new constitu- tion will better serve the purpose of y the Council and the schoo . T Through closer correlation with the faculty and a better informed student body, we feel we have built a stronger Council. Our hope is that it may continue to grow and function in the future VVe are particularly grateful for the expert and patient guidance of Mrs. Hawley, our Sponsor. 1 T N I ED MACEY, JIM ZINK, NICK NOSSAMAN, DENNIS DANIELS.
