MUSIC RECCDRD Under the outstanding guidance of Paul Zahradka, the music organizations of Du- rango High School have had a commemorable year. The 60-piece band marched and played through hail, sleet, and snow at all of the home football games, and although Mr. Zahradka was hauled into Ukangroo courtl' during Homecoming and accused of losing a game because of his band, we believe that he and his organizations are the pride of th schoolw because of their enthusiastic school spirit and outstanding musical ability. The band, the 53-piece orchestra, the 69-voice mixed chorus, and the girls glee, with an enrollment of 139, were all a credit to our school at the annual high school concert, Fine Arts, and at the state music contests. The judges especially praised the mixed chorus, and said that our girls glee was one of the best theyid ever heard. Little did they know what a difficult time we wlere having trying to hold each other up during girls glee, and it's a good thing the audience couldn't see how we were stacked up on those chairs and tables and stands! The boys glee sang for the concert, and about stole the show with their rendition of The Thing. These five organizations participated in many outside activities this year, as did numerous soloists. The pep band was a vital part of our assemblies, when they played our school song it brought a lump to the throat of many a senior. Every music student of Durango High School is proud of the organization to which he belongs. Weire all thankful that we are fortunate enough to have Mr. Zahradka as our director, because he is hard to beat. Not only is he a capable music instructor, he is a friend to all, and we will never forget all that he has done for us, or the fun we've had together. He is a teacher that is always for the students, and therefore the students will always be for him.
