John Foster Dulles The Dulles High School Band was awarded a First Division rating in both concert playing and sight reading which enabled them to complete the coveted Triple Crown of band competition, the Sweepstakes Award. This award represents a clean sweep of all areas of competition: Marching, Concert Playing and Sight Reading, Throughout the school year 49 high school bands, representing all classifications in this twelve county region, participated in the various contest events. Of these, only 3 received the Sweepstakes Award. This achievement by the Dulles Band came as a climax to an outstanding year which saw the band performing at 15 football games, various public concerts and parades, placing 6 students in the All-District Band and 1 in the All-Region Band, winning 17 First Division medals at the Regional Solo and Ensemble Contest and entering 7 in the State Solo and Ensemble Contest which was held in Austin in June. Congratulations on a superb year!

Science Iohn Weiss SPECTROGRAPH NAMED TOP EXHIBIT John Weiss, senior, received top honors in the Fort Bend Science Fair with his exhibit on Principles of a Spectrograph. John earned first place in the Physics section and was named winner of the Senior Division and overall winner of the third an- nual fair held Feb. '7-8, in the Dulles Cafeteria. The winning exhibit included a spectrograph, a device dealing with the analysis of radiation, built by John 'as ia project for Mr. J. P. Gib- bons' Physics class. Dulles students had entered 91 exhibits in the fair's Senior Divi- sion, which was subdivided into sections of Physics, Chemistry, Bi- ology and Math. Other winners in the Physics sec- tion were PaulHorn and Candjy Hynes, who placed second and thir . Lucyl Agnello, Toncy Frankie and Kennet Nugent place first, second and third, respectively, in the Chem- istry section. Students who won the first three places in Biology were Jerry Whee- ler, Jody Hynes and Archie Milam. Those who placed in the Math sec- tion were: first, David Nealg sec- ond, Martha Suhrg and third, Candy Hynes. Honorable mention was attribut- ed to four students with projects in the Physics section. They were: Charles Stichler, Jakie Schrurn, Charlotte Hancock and Don Bau- man. Six students with Chemistry pro- jects received honorable mention. They were: Merijane Wheeler, Bruce Edwards, Linda Cruse, Wil- liam Knox, Wanda Morris and Don Hughes. John Nugent's exhibit was given honorable mention in the Bi- ology section. The winning students were hon- ored with plaques, medals and rib- bons at an awards program that closed the fair Saturday night, Feb. 8. The judges in the Senior Divi- sion were: Mr. Bruce Edwards, Physics, Mr. Clifford Nyglrin, Bi- ologyg Mr. Joe Hynes, C emistry, and Mr. L. T. Howard, Math. The judges scored the entries on the basis of creative ability, scien- tific thought, thoroughness, skill, clarity and dramatic value. -xx' '-' P , I.
