John Foster Dulles The Dulles High School Band was awarded a First Division rating in both concert playing and sight reading which enabled them to complete the coveted Triple Crown of band competition, the Sweepstakes Award. This award represents a clean sweep of all areas of competition: Marching, Concert Playing and Sight Reading, Throughout the school year 49 high school bands, representing all classifications in this twelve county region, participated in the various contest events. Of these, only 3 received the Sweepstakes Award. This achievement by the Dulles Band came as a climax to an outstanding year which saw the band performing at 15 football games, various public concerts and parades, placing 6 students in the All-District Band and 1 in the All-Region Band, winning 17 First Division medals at the Regional Solo and Ensemble Contest and entering 7 in the State Solo and Ensemble Contest which was held in Austin in June. Congratulations on a superb year!
