When weekends are over, the chicken wire and crepe paper creations gone, we return to the week-day pursuits — with an afternoon off now and then for carefree excursions, an open-air ride, cool sunglasses, dates, refreshment. 17

Yes, there is a social life at Duke, as we discover. Within the organized framework of Weekends and cabin parties there is room for fun, humor, creativity, relaxation. ■■i - Duke athletic events draw crowds whose enthusi- asm merits national publicity; and the athletically inclined can find joy in victory or intense effort in the attempt, in both major and minor sports — or even in a P.E. class. Bus stop flyers may be a genre of advertising unique to Duke — but they succeed in disseminating information of campus activities, and we respond, braving Duke ' s solution to the mobility problem to take a bus. On good days we make it to a window seat for a few minutes of distracted thought and unconcerned gazing. 18
