Class H lstory
It seems fantastlc that tlme has passed so fast
and that so many thlng haxe happened 1n four
short years I could neyer attempt to relate all the
happemngs but as we Journey down memory lane
maybe I can hlt the hlghllghts
Remember the flrst day we came to DuPont
Hlgh School'7 Those semors surely dld get a good
laugh at us greenles and we dldn t appreclate that
one blt Then of all thlngs on lnltlatl0H day we
had to wear one hrgh heel and one low heel shoe
and carry our books 1n a bucket The boys looked
so cute IU thelr llttle short breeches backwards of
course and a low neck blouse They looked luke
angels wlth the rlbbons around thelr heads but as
they walked the tm cans around thelr walsts rattled
lxke an escaped convlct s ball and chaln
Soon after m1t1at1on we elected Moe Wrlght for
presldent of our class He dld a splendld job ln that
C3p8C1ty and we enyoyed numerous events through
out the year The hlghllght of the act1v1t1es was
the Freshman party We had a square dance and
sock dance comblnatlon Such fancy socks as were
exhlblted that mght'
In no tlme at all flnal exams rolled around and
we antlclpated a three month s vacatlon It seemed
that the vacatlon was only three weeks lnstead
because September came mlghty fast and here we
were omg up the front walk agam Thrs tlme we
dldnt feel so green because we were now sllly
sophomores and we were havmg fun gomg over
fool s hlll and glggle holler As the year passed
we began to feel more a part of the school w1th our
addrtlonal act1v1t1es Ernest Burke was elected pres
1dent of our class and we saw to It that he had
plenty of work to do
Mld terms came soon and everyone slghed wxth
rehef when they were oyer There was no tlme for
study now for DuPont was wmnmg all the tourna
ments and headmg for Memphrs and the state
tournament We dldnt get far m the tournaments
but everyone was exclted just the same Next was
our Sophomore Party We had a prcmc and swlm
mlng party at Pleasant Green We had a wonder
ful time swlmmmg danclng and eatmg those lus
c1ous lunches we had brought wlth us Several
weeks after the party we took flnal exams and were
free for three months Of course by the t1me the
three months were oy er we were lookmg forward to
our ,Iumor year because we were now upper class
men There were numerous exents to whlch we
looked forward so we were ready to settle down to
Th1S year we placed boys and glrls ln top po
s1t1ons 1n all athletlc spots and m other orgamza
tlons too It was a pleasant feellng to see your class
represented ln so many dlfferent places Bemg an
upper classman meant somethlng to us because of
the 3CllNll,lCS WhlCl'l, are especlally for them such
as the class play and the yunlor senlor banquet The
play For Petes Sake whlch was dlrected by
Mrs Major and Mlss Elllott was a great success
and gave us qulte a blt of money to help wlth the
banquet Soon after the play we journeyed to the
state tournament agam thls txme to Johnson Clty
For the flrst tlme ln hlstory we were State Basket
The next hlghlrght of the year was our fxrst
JUDIOI' senlor banquet We were as busy as bees
planmng the decoratlons the menu and all the
other detalls of a great banquet and formal uslng
a Hawauan theme for all of these After we flnlshed
eatlng the program was presented wlth Earnest
Burke our presldent actlng as master of cere
monles After he crowned MISS Dorls Ann Oakley
ueen of the Prom and bestowed the customary
krss lII13glI1Cl the crown fell off' Soon after the
prom came our class party and fmal exams
What a dlfferent feeling we had as we walked
up the steps Thls was 1t our senlor year' We gave
Blchard Johannes the gavel and he took a mlghty
blg job There were all the thmgs that a senlor has
to do l1ke haw mg prctures made ordermg caps and
gowns cards and 1nv1tat1ons
We planned our senlor trip for the Smoky
Mountams but press tlme came before the trrp
so that and the play are future hlstory Nfaybe ln
future years when you renew your hrgh school
career thls wrll help to recall some of those mem
OTICS Our days here w1ll be long remembered and
as we go out mto the world may we ever honor
