We entered Draper at a time when the world was recovering from the devastation of a great war. After a short lapse of time, our country was again involved in a war of conflicting ideologies. We were too young to realize the effects these two wars would have upon our lives. During our years at Draper we have been taught the causes and results of past wars in the hope that we can prevent a repeti- tion of history's darkest hours. y Our country is presently involved in a cold war, a war of propaganda and tension. We read and hear about new crises almost daily. During this cold war We have entered a new era, the Space Age. In this age we will graduate. We will become contributing members of a society vitally concerned with its position in space exploration. This era will affect our future and that of all who will come after us. Therefore, we must direct our efforts to meet successfully the challenge of the Space Age. CONTENTS f 0' if 054' fQQUgiCUMm. Baker, a man who dedicated his life to the teaching profession, His willingness to give up valuable time to individual student problems has made us all proud of him. His door was always open and the advice we obtained from him will be remembered when our high school graduation is only a memory. fkgyj KV Vx V 1 XX 5 if ,,v XX Q as qvyf Lgkgig E 'wx TUCCEQ wi. Draper Gaining Ground Utter Chaos First and Ten Draper's 1961 football team ended the season with a 3-4-1 record. Considering the strength of the opposing teams in the Western Conference, we are proud of our record. Every boy on the squad played his best in each game and this has been a major factor in making our team a good one. Our boys, capably directed by Coach Erickson, deserve congratulations for their spirit, enthusiasm, and sportsmanship which were displayed splendidly in every contest. Our only losses were to undefeated Burnt Hills twice and to Class A Mont Pleasant and Linton High Schools. Later in the season we defeated Burnt Hills 68-64 and obtained the Western Conference Tournament title. This year Draper was the defending champion at the Western Conference Tournament and the squad has the distinction of being the only one to win the championship twice. Although hampered by a small spectator turnout, a lack of exper- ienced wrestlers, and midyear grad- uation, Coach Austin Leahy guided our team to this fine record. Coach Leahy deserves a great deal of credit for his accomplishments with our wrestling teams including last year's undefeated team. With him as our coach, Draper will continue to have outstanding wrestling teams in the future. 21 Burnt Hills 30 Scotia 26 Saratoga 29 Scotia 14 Burnt Hills 11 Mont Pleasant 24 Ballston Spa 19 Linton 27 Saratoga 36 Cobleskill 31 Gloversville In a Tight Spot BASEBALL ROW 1, left to right: W. The night of our junior Prom, May 12, 1961, will always remain in our fondest memories. The gym took on an atmosphere of gran- deur, decorated in various shades of blue and filled with the music of the Continentals. The evening was highlighted by the appearance of our radiant Queen, Rozanne Parillo, and her six lovely princesses. This outstanding event of our junior year was a significant step in our 64 Stairway to the Stars. MISS PATRICIA THOMPSON Director After many weeks of intensive practice, Harvey was presented by the Senior Class on November 10, 1961. The three act comedy by Mary Chase was about Elwood P. Dowd and his friend, Harvey, an invisible six-foot white rabbit. Elwood's sister and niece's various attempts to have him confined to a sanitarium resulted in failure and laughs. Under the capable and inspiring direction of Miss Patricia Thompson, our play was a great suc- cess. M .1 fi .Q ,Q HARVEY CAST Alyrlla AI,1a Sizzmzozzf . She was sent to us by the American Field Service from Inuyama City, japan. As soon as she arrived, Yoko adjusted quickly to our ways and became much loved by all. We sincerely hope she has enjoyed being here as much as we have enjoyed having her. EXCHANGE This is the sixth year of the foreign exchange program at Draper. Each year, one junior has the chance to live in a coun- try overseas from two to ten months and a student from a foreign country lives in the United States for a year. In June of 1961 Tony Vianna was notified that he had been chosen to represent the United States and Draper in Belgium. He left that month and returned in August. During his stay in Belgium he lived with three families in the different cities of Brussels, Antwerp, and Waterloo. Through his trip, Tony has helped our country to take a big step toward peace and understanding throughout the world. Kindergarten 1949-1950 OUR RETURN TRIP The year is 1972 as our spacecraft lands at the Schenectady County spaceport. We found the trip to be very enjoyable through the efforts of our pilots, CHUCK LE GERE and DAVE LYNCH, and space hostess, DALE BALLENTINE. We received permission to land from BILL DE LUCIA and JOHN SUTTON in the control tower. We had a smooth landing due to the skill of the ground crew consisting of JOE ANGERAMI, DAVE AUMILLER, GENE VILLANO and PAUL MESSERLE. As we left the space- craft, we boarded a helicopter piloted by TOM NASTARS, who proceeded to give us a tour of the city. Our first stop was the Vianna General Hospital, headed by Dr. ANTONIO VIANNA. His staff includes chief medical technician JUDY ROGERS, dietitian FREDENE KAST- NER, and nurses, LINDA ADAMS and ARLENE CONTE. We were greeted by the receptionist DIANE DOULIN and medical secretaries PAT DE MARCO and PAT MOROCCO. We were taken to the experimental labs by ANGELA CORRADI where DENNIS DURRANT finally succeeded in developing a six-foot rabbit. Our next stop was the RAKOWSKI and VERRIGNI Research Labs. There we toured the plant and saw secretaries SUE BARKLEY, DONNA DAGOSTINO, JO-ANN TOMMASONE, SANDY MOORE, GRACE GRAHAM, ELAINE HANKE, PAT URBANCZYK, and ROZANNE PARILLO busily typing. As we continued our tour of the plant, we visited the advertising design department headed by CAROLINE AN- DRYSZCZYK with ED LEONARD, LANNY LIVINGSTON, BILL BEADNELL, and LINDA FERRANTE as her assistants. In the sales department we came upon TOM BAUM, BILL NITSCHE, BERNIE NARDINI, ALAN CRAIG, and FRANK HUGHES. We also met RICHARD BLANCHARD, RON SMITH, JEFF NALEWJKA, DON PETTENGILL, BOB MIDDLETON, GARY PAIGE, BOB BUEHLER, JANIS ROBIN- SON and HARRY CURTIS who are now prominent engineers. Other employees in- cluded BERNA QUACKENBUSH, HAROLD PIERONE, LOUIE NICOLELLA, GAIL SITZER, KATHY LE BOEUF, ELSIE LAWRENCE, LINDE TALERICO, PAM SE- COR, BARB VON WEDEL, NANCY WELDON, PHYLLIS ZMYEWSKI, PETE FRIGULETTO and JOHN D'AMICO. We left the plant near closing time and met DOREEN CASSIDY, MARSHALL CRUM, and CAMILLE DI FABBIO coming into work. Before boarding the helicopter we saw WARREN OLIVER, GARY HOWE, DON- ALD WICKS, and NORMAN ALFIERI who were home on leave from the Navy. From the helicopter we looked down on the Plaza and saw that RIT SACCOCIO was starring in a comedy and that LOU RIANO'and MARILYN MICSKI were in a motion picture based on SHARON CONROY'S best selling novel, Good Timer at Draper. The next thing we did was visit the homes of CAROL NIEMIEC, CAROLE ZAD- ROZNY, and ELLEN DOBLER where we learned that SUZANNE POSLUSZNY, LORRY MELIDEO, and SHIRLEY PERILLO were successful beauticians and that SUE RIANO and BARB IOVINELLI managed dress shops. Our last stop was our Alma Mater where WALT CALLAHAN, SANDY RYAN, CHRIS MASSAL, EILEEN KEXEL, CAROL CASTORINA, ANNA MARIA DE MIDIO, PAT ROWBOTHAM, and SHERRY WILLIAMS were dispensing knowledge. As we walked through the halls we,recalled many of the happy memories which we shared with YOKO OSAWA. We also saw RIT SIMEK delivering groceries to the school from SINDONI'S Market. DAN MANEY took a group picture of us and RON JANCEK said a prayer for our safe return before we left on our spacecraft. W Two Des perndos When does the Party start? VUhat's Everybody Looking ut? And The Beginning Graduation . . . and the end of twelve years of grade and high school . . . the beginning of a new era for you. Many ofyou will be going on to college, to technical schools . . . while others will be going directly to jobs. Whichever your course may be, remember that your education doesn't stop when you finish school. You can keep on learning . . . by reading, by being constantly curious on your job, about everything you do, and finding answers to your questions. You can't stand still . . . for space-age America holds little for those who refuse to make progress. The scientists of the future need trained workers to back them up . . . technicians who can build from their plans. ln business, in communica- tions . . . in arts and the professions . . . there's a future for those who keep learning . . . those who acquire more skills and more knowledge. At General Electric, the future will demand trained personnel every- where . . . to design the machines, to build them, and to operate them . . . to handle the vast amount of work to be done in new ways, with new products. General Electric is not alone in this . . . for every firm finds itself in need of men and women with ability and training, in every degree. ln the years ahead, miss no opportunity to add to your store of knowledge. Keep searching for facts, for theories . . . for the basic information you will need to help you grow in your chosen field. lf you do learn, you'll fit into the pattern of the future . . . ready to accept the opportunities it holds for success.
