The fireplace and its embers, the study lamp and the pipe, the dance and the dancing companion are all the panoply of college night. Years later, these are the memories that Will cling, and as far as the QUAX suc- ceeds in bringing them back, imprinting them in colors on the pages to follow, insofar shall we feel that we have effected our purpose. To the lovely blacks and grays, the slanting brown, the duslcs of university night, may this be as a niirror, this, the 1937 Drake QUAX.

UUTH and age are words from a conjurers hoxg that, these men have taught us. To look upon tomorrow at sixty with that same eagerness that we look upon it who are twenty, to hold that fitting immortality would be eons of time to learn, that, these men have taught us. And if we, in the ruddiness of day, pay tribute to them in the Silver of night, what place is more proper than a book that holds all the nights and days of the year within its covers. To Sherman Arthur Kirk, Lewis XVorthiugton Smith and Alfred John Pearson, this, the 1937 QUAX, is rightly a tribute. They, in themselves, have held recognition, but far more from the mouths and deeds of the men they taught will their fame come.
