MQ Liberal Arts THE COLLEGE OF LIBERAL ARTS BY DEAN D. Wi. BfIOREI'IOUSE The courses of study offered by the College of Liberal Arts are fundamental courses. This fact is the foundation upon which universities build the curricula of their various colleges. There is, then a necessity for correlating this college with all the other schools and colleges, if efficient and permanent work is to be done by the University as a Whole. Professional and vocational courses are demanded by a large majority of those seeking higher education. It is therefore the more imperative that they should be formed upon a broad basis of liberal studies. The older professions of law and medicine have demonstrated the futility of accepting the student fresh from his elementary studies in the high school and have placed the requirements where they should be. If the other professional and vocational courses are to hold their honored places with these they must do likewise. To hurry specialization makes for a job rather than a position, trains an individual and not a citizen. A broad and sympathetic interest in all human activities and especially in public affairs should characterize every educated man. 1 l i l 'XJ 1 1. l 1 1 Page 22 .. ,.,,. -- ,, Q. V. ,,
