Others work at various businesses in the Rockaway Townsquare Mall such as toy stores, clothing stores, fastfood restaurants, theaters, and record shops. Students also work at stores in Dover and surrounding towns. On these pages we see the following students at work: TOP LEFT — Pierre Gagne bussing tables at Harold’s Pub, ABOVE LEFT — working at DHS are Lillian Medina, Ada Acevedo, and Mayra Soto, ABOVE — Nacie Lewis cashiers at Jamesway, ABOVE RIGHT — sandwich maker Tom Fahy at Harold’s Pub, TOP RIGHT — Janet Valentin at Jamesway, RIGHT — Denise Buechel waits on customers at Welch’s and FAR RIGHT — Mona Ugalde works as a secretary at the Pena Real Estate Office. 4

■ T-MINUS 9 Countdown Webster’s Dictionary defines it as an audible backward counting off (as in seconds) to indicate the time remaining before an event (as in launching a rocket). Everybody counts down to events at some point in his or her lifetime. Students also countdown to various events. Every sixteen year old counts the days till he or she gets a driver’s license. During the school day, students watch the clock and look forward to the end of the day. They count the days to when their term paper or report is due. Every teenager counts the years until he or she is out of high school. Once summer vacation begins students keep track of the days left until school commences. During the summer they may go on vacation with their family or go places with their friends to pass the time away. Some juniors may visit colleges during their vacation in preparation for their future decision. The incoming freshmen anticipate high school and wonder what it is going to be like. They may even worry about the way the upperclassmen will react to them. Most of all, as the new academic year draws closer, students take advantage of the remaining days by “counting down.” The Olympics play an important part in world relations and patriotism. Many students watched the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles and followed the progress of the American athletes. A few of our students and teachers were lucky enough to go to California to see the 1984 Olympics. Others followed the Olympics by watching them on national television or by reading the newspaper. Some went to see the ticker tape parade given to the American athletes in New York City. LEFT — Julianna McNamara and Mary Lou Retton, LEFT MIDDLE — Tracee Ruiz, BOTTOM LEFT— Rowdy Gaines and Teammate, BOTTOM RIGHT — Tim Daggett and Michelle Dusserre.
