Boys and Girls on the Run The Tiger cross-country team, which has been led, for eighteen years, by head coach Wayne Valentine, finished another successful season with a 6-5 overall record. A fifth place finish in the championship meet and a 4-4 conference dual meet record led them to finish fifth overall in the Hills Division of the Iron-Hills Conference. Highlights of the season came in Saturday meets where the Tigers seemed to excel. The Tigers placed third at the West Seneca Classic in New York, and their second place performance in the state sectionals enabled them to run and finish seventh in the State Group Championships. Leading the Tigers were senior Randy Valentine (Right), who was the top runner in most meets, junior Frank Moran, and sophomore Pilar Figueroa. Also helping the team were sophomore Wilfredo Salada and freshmen Gilbert Roman, Jason Palamountain and Bobby Patino. The Tigerettes finished their season on an optimistic note winning their final two meets to end with a 2-7 record. Tigerette success came on the road winning trophies by placing second at the Lake Forest Invitational in Delaware and third at the West Seneca Invitational in New York. The girls, coached by Steve Schiffman, finished sixth in both the Iron-Hills Conference meet and state sectionals and tenth in a tough Morris County meet. Sophomore Yolanda Santana (Middle) proved she is one of New Jersey’s best distance runners by winning the Dover Invitational Sophomore race, the Iron-Hills Conference, Hills Division meet and the West Seneca Classic. Other runners contributing to the improving team were senior Kathy MaguirefBoffom right), junior Trina Altman, sophomores Heather Welch and Cathy Magliocchetti and freshmen Stacy Reidinger, Diane Mendoza and Liz Ramos. Standing: Asst. Coach Penneta.
