As we walk into the Douglas Astradome to the reunion for the Class of 1970, we see Judy Gable opening the door for Ronald Brown. We look around and see Billy Keeton hiding under a cloud of smoke and reading Life. We hear loud noises and look around to see that they are coming from Eva Bowden, Nan Bowen, James Coppett, James Pierce, Ethridge Williamson, and Bobby Winfrey. In a very dark spot sit Carlene Fhillips, Willene Wilson, Laura West, and Barbara Bryant, telling Van Sims how to succeed with girls. Well, we see that Avis Gibson is till at it! She's flirting with Jimmy Heard and Terry Mason, the new owners of the Mt. Hebron Distillery. Deborah Rice and Malanda Lawson, who are now top models, are modeling the latest fashions from London and Paris. Watching this fashion show are Sherry Pendley, Linda Eudy, Elaine Blackwood, and Tommy Ford, who is the photographer for Playboy Magazine. How Johnny Rhoades can sleep in all this noise is beyond me; but, I suppose he needs plenty of sleep after the late hours he kept last night. Rhona Rush, Diane Gardner, and Bobby Moore seem to be having some difficulty with their children, who want to play Spin the Bottle. ” We are very honored to have Shelia Smith, Joyce Goss and Kay Mayo with us, since they had to fly in from Europe just to be here today. We hear loud laughter as Phillip Buchanan tells a joke to James Johnson and Walter Hancock, the Commodity Chairmen of Douglas and Needmore. Steve Lang and Terry Staton will be along later because they are working on Terry's new Fiat. Patricia Corbin and Sara Pankey are boasting about their latest records of field and track in the Olympics. Rhonda Dyar, Brenda Copeland, Judy Winfrey, and Ginger Mahan are sitting in a huddle discussing the latest Soap Operas on the new TV station located in Douglas. Well, we see Greg Duvall and Deborah Jones, the famous folk singers, are rehearsing for their festival which will be held tomorrow night at High Point. Senator Bill Minor is delivering his speech on Soil Conservation to a group of — empty chairs. Kenneth Daniel is walking around trying to sell everybody here a magazine. We see that Rickey Buckelew, Sherrie Allison, Elaine Maddux, and Kathy Buchanan are as neat and well-dressed as ever. They have just been selected for the Best-Dressed List of Amer- ica. Theresa Hill, the great psychiatrist, is chatting with some of her former patients --- Robert Landers, Cathy Frasier, Diane Walls, and Clive Amos. Drennon Mayo and Danny Bonds, the fantastic Globe Trotters of Douglas, are handing out autographed basketballs. Who is that running in? Oh, it's Kathy Daugherty, she has forgotten to get her car again. 39 Most Ambitious Theresa Hill and Bobby Winfrey Best Personalities Shelia Smith, Robert Landers and Brenda Cope- land Best Athletes Patricia Corbin and Sara Pankey Most Congenial Elaine Blackwood and Johnny Rhoades Laziest Bobby Moore, Dianne Walls and James Johnson 41 42 Danny Bonds and Joyce Goss Neatest Steve Lang and Deborah Rice Most Mischievous Rhonda Dyar, Cathy Buchanan, and Ethridge Williamson Quietest Willine Wilson and Van Sims 44 Cutest Most Studious Kenneth Daniel and Linda Eudy Malanda Lawson and Ronald Brown 47 Ronald Brown and Judy Gable Robert Landers and Brenda Copeland Prettiest and Most Handsome Judy Winfrey and Ken Daniel Most Dependable Biggest Flirt and Wolf Bill Minor and Avis Gibson 48 The 1970 Eagle Staff Danny Bonds Activities Editor Judy Winfrey Business Manager 49 Dianne Grimes Jr. Assistant Mike Camp Jr. Assistant Greg Duvall Treasurer Kay Mayo Ad Manager Jimmy Heard Ad Manager Ken Daniel Photographer Terry Mason Photographer Kathy Daugherty Peppers Typist Ethridge Williamson Typist Theresa Hill Typist Brenda Copeland Typist Miss Sarah Scruggs Sponsor Adams, Alton Alexander, J. Cast of Hee Haw Administration MR. ROBERT D. SLOMAN Principal B.S. Jacksonville State University M.A.T. Athens College MESSAGE The teacher speaking to a heterogeneous class, offering his or her advice, can do no more than offer. Walt Whitman said, Not I - not God, can travel this road for you.” Those of us in the field of education marvel at the accomplishments of the educables. Certainly each teacher feels just a little proud when he sees the name of a former student in print as a result of an accomplishment. There are, however, those who never make the headlines perhaps because of modesty, lack of interest, or inability. This day and age provides an opportunity for each and every student to attain his goals regardless of how high these goals are set. Education sets the pattern for success; the individual fills the mold. To the students not graduating let me advise you to stay in school; education pays dividends. To the graduating seniors let me congratulate you upon your reception of the high school diploma. Let it be the stepping stone to a fruitful and successful future. 72 MRS. NANNIE FRACHISEUR B.
