(Ike (liaijle presented bu the $ eninrs nf 19B9 Bmupas Ijtijh iSrluuil Bmiijlas, Alabama THE SENIORS OF 69 UNLOCK THE FUTURE' Sponsored by Miss Sarah Scruggs HK' Beiurati' the 1%9 (Sagle to 311 r. JL Uee Mitthell With deep admiration and gratitude the Eagle Staff sincerely presents this book to one who holds our highest esteem, one who has shown continued interest and dedication to the students, faculty, and school. Words are a poor substitute with which to express our respect and admiration for Mr, Mitchell. We hope in some small way this dedication will display our warm and sincere affection for one of our favorite faculty members. MR. ARTHUR JARVIS, Principal Jacksonville State University M.A. MESSAGE To be a recipient of a high school diploma is certainly an accomplishment for anyone to attain in the sixties and even more important as the years go by. The graduating class of 1969 are very fortunate to have been born of good parents and in a political climate which favors you as an individual. You should not forget that self-interest and patriotism go together. You must always look out for yourself and your country. Self-interest and your nation’s interest are not contradictory; they are partners. It is dangerous to assume that your country’s welfare belongs to someone in government far away and personally unknown to you. The graduates of 1969 face many challenges in this perplexed society. Being a good American is probably the most important task that will confront you. Yet this is really not difficult. It is just being a good member of the group, community, state and nation; helping those who need help, studying the arguments of those who oppose you, doing well the work before you each day. Our American Republic was established to assure the dignity and rights of the individual. In your daily life take these into account and you will be a good American.
