THE SENIOR CLASS of DOUGLAS HIGH SCHOOL PRESENTS THE 1966 EAGLE , v S'° Mr. Berry Mr. Mitchell c • Sf t We, the Senior Class of 1966, dedicate this 1966 edition A of the Eagle to the faculty. We wish to express our gratitude, appreciation, and love to you who have taught us, supported us, and prepared us for the future. J. ° u To you we say, Thanks” for these wonderful years, and may we never forget what you have meant to us. ‘ A o„. ,cV. Mrs. Berry w 0 Mr 3t ■ 6r 2 ADMINISTRATION LUCK A lazy man is never lucky. The only sure thing about luck is that it will change. Shallow men believed in luck; wise men and strong men believed in cause and work. The secret to success in life is for a man to be ready for his opportunity when it comes. Too many are too often ready to attribute the success of others to “luck.” Luck is usually the fruit of intelligent application. The man who is intent upon making the most of his opportunities is too busy to bother about luck. Loyd Berry, Principal 4 MRS. NOVELL BERRY MR. GEORGE BRUCE Vocational Home Economics Mathematics MRS. I notice a distinguished man passing out cards. Looking closely, I see that it is Butch Brown, our old class president. Wouldn't you know he'd be running for president some day! A sudden commotion is heard, and I look up to see what I think is the local boy scout troop entering; how- ever, on second glance, it proves to be only Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Brothers and family. Since I have a few minutes to wait before the reunion starts, 1 stroll over to the street corner and buy a paper from a paperboy, who strongly resembles someone I've known. Upon inquiring, I find that he is little Johnny Denson, Jr. Glancing at the headlines, I notice that there has been a tragedy. It seems that a hobo, trying to hitch a ride on the Douglas Freight Railroad, was thrown out and suffered a broken neck. As I continue to read, I am appalled to learn that it was poor Larry Frachiseur. Investigating officers, Benny Camp and Jarad Jarvis, found that he was pushed by his fellow traveler, Harvey Ogle! Flipping hurridly through the pages, a familiar picture and name catch my eye. Oh, yes, it's Sandra Hall; she now has her own advice-to-the-love-lorn column. She must be quite good at it; she has found hus- bands for Nalda Kilpatrick, Jeanette Parker, Frieda Goodwin. Linda Camp, and JoAnn Miller. On the opposite page. Gladys Gober and Charlene Adams edit their gossip column. This column is quite a rage! In the sports section, I notice that the U. S. Olympic Relay Team has taken top honors in the Summer Olympics, thanks to the team members, Roger Mahan, Robert Fowler, and Ronald Chavies. Another '66 grad. Randy Sims, won the swimming event. Bold black print announces the replacement of Sandy Koufax by Lewis Sims. Lynda Moon is the first woman to win the Daytona 500; her pit crew is composed of Sandra Pendley, Merle Lawrence. Bonnie Cook, and her fuel engineer, Shiela Sullivan. Also our old friend. Paschal Moon, is creating excitement with his thrill driving. They say Ann McAllister has worried herself gray-headed by this turn of events. Putting the paper away, I find my way back to the auditorium. While I was gone, several more graduates have come. Lounging over against the piano is Lowell Johnson, humming along to a familiar tune from a re- cent Broadway hit that he and his accompanist. Carolyn Ragon have made. They tell me that Donald Claborn and Kathy Long will not be at the reunion. They are avid fans of the Grand Old Opry, starring Frank Gibbs, and therefore they just can't miss a show! Farrial Berry, who has his own show on T.V. entitled Berry Baby and the Barbarians is here. The Barbarians, who just happen to be can-can dancers, are Jeannie Hamrick, Jane Daugherty, and Charlotte Bonds. Noticing the couple entering, I see that Sherry Hayes took Sandra's advice and kept chasing him. She and her family are visiting from Ohio! Coming in behind them is an odd-looking little lady. Immediately whispers start flying around the room. Poor Rachel Morrow; it seems that she worked with the patients at Bryce Hospital so long that it has begun to rub off on her. Recent patients of hers have been Dalmus Davidson, who ran himself crazy, worrying that he would ruin his life by getting married; and Judy Smith who worried herself to death, afraid she would never get married. Looking at the program, I notice that the guest speaker is Mary Wright. Her speech is entitled Commun- ism and Its Threat to the Free World. As we take our seats at the table. I am startled by the handsome young man who delivers the invocation. Surely that isn't REV. Micheal Spears, but I believe that is who it is! 80 Buddy Murrell saunters in, late as usual, wearing a Gilchrist button. Oh, yes, Gilchrist is running for President against Butch; and Buddy is his campaign manager. Melba Saye. Patricia Brown, and Yvonne Mason struggle in with a baby in each arm. Somebody just in- formed me that those little darlings are their grandchildren! Kirstie Sims and Betty Lawson are just entering. Looks like both have been crying. Yes, they were just told that THEIR daughters are engaged. Now they know what their own mothers went through. Speaking of being engaged. I just heard that Gilbert Adams is engaged again. Doesn't this make about the 13th time? Next, in strolls Gerald Long and Wanda Maltbie. Gerald, the tycoon of the business world, has just pur- chased the largest department store in town. The new name is Long's Lingerie, and Wanda is his top model. The old place has really changed! Almost all the old teachers are gone, but Mr. and Mrs. Berry, of course, are still here. Ann Hanson has taken over her mother's old job as English teacher. I thought she was planning to teach mathematics, but I guess she thought her mother needed a rest. I am sorry to hear that Mrs. Minor and Mr. Bruce aren't teaching here any more, but I hear that they have good jobs at Lakeview!
