Text from Pages 1 - 80 of the 1964 volume:

Accused slayer of President Kennedy, Lee Oswald, was shot fatally before national TV audience. Right: Mrs. Jacqueline Kennedy, Caroline and John, Jr. leave Washington for Christmas m Florida. in Review—1963 With the assassination of John F. Kennedy of Massachusetts, youngest president in U.S. history, the country lost a highly-regarded and remarkably capable statesman and administrator. President DeGaulle of France, saluting, stands with German Chancellor Erhard, right, and President Lubke, as some heads of state gathered in tribute to the late President Kennedy. President Kennedy, and soon-to-be-retired, Ger- man Chancellor Adenauer met in Bonn during Kennedy's successful ten-day tour of Western Europe. President Kennedy and then Vice-President Johnson (second from right) met with leaders of the August “March on Wash- ington” dramatizing the nation's leading domestic issue in 1963. Major Gordon Cooper received the Distinguished Service Medal from President Kennedy at the White House in May, following Cooper's 22 orbit flight and manually controlled re-entry. You have earned our deepest admiration . . . You have inspired us to reach higher goals of learning . . . Because of these things and many many more, we, the Seniors, dedicate this edition of The Eagle to you, Mrs. Odie Hanson. Dedication 2 Principal''s Message Congratulations to the Annual Staff and to Mrs. Ross, Annual Sponsor, for another job well done. It is always with many joyous expectations that the school looks forward each year to our annual which portrays our school spirit, in both work and play. A few parting words of an ancient philosopher will do us all good to review occasionally when our importance begins to excel our abilities. . . . the delusion that individual achievement is made by crush- ing others, the tendency to worry about things that cannot be changed or corrected, insisting that things are impossible because we cannot ac- complish it, refusing to set aside trivial preferences, neglecting development and refinement of the mind, and acquiring the habit of reading and study, attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do. The co-operation of the local board, teachers, and students are appreciated for contributing to a most successful school year. May opportunity be yours. 3 TRUMAN GLASSCO Guidance Counselor MRS.
