ANN HANSON Editor rHRIDGE MUSICK Business Manager NELL CANADY WANDA JOHNSON Typists JVmiual J taff JOAN GARRISON Snapshot Editor ‘I princtpal THE CROWN JEWELS OF AMERICA Many countries of the world pass Crown Jewels. When war or revolution threaten these countries the Crown Jewels are moved to another country for safety. No royal crown, sculpture, or throne will be moved if we are threatened by war, invasion, or revolution. The Crown Jewels of America are of greater splendor and value than all the wealth of all the kingdoms of the world. It is our duty and de- votion to cherish the legacy of our fo re fa thers--but what are the Crown Jewels our forefathers left America--that our present generation possesses? Some might answer the famous writings: The Declaration of Independence, The Constitution of the United States, Mayflower Compact, and all other great documents that contributed to our heritage. Others might answer that it is places like Plymouth Rock, Old North Steeple in Boston, Concord, Valley Forge, Yorktown where a great struggle ended for independence, a log cabin in Kentucky where a great Emancipator first beheld the light, the Hermitage, The Alamo in Texas. All of these are part of the Crown Jewels of America. Yet, there are more than written documents and historical places which make The Crown Jewels of America. Little schools have grown into great universities, pioneers in medical practice grew into great trail blazers for a great medical practice and scientific medical profession. The development of free and universal education brought an expanding economy where high wages and great productivity made the common man live as kings did in olden times. Freedom of Press, freedom of Assembly, freedom of Worship, freedom to say no as well as yes, to vote as your conscience dictates--all these are part of the Crown Jewels of America. Who can name the most important Crown Jewels of America without including the school boys and girls of America. The Constitution has stood as our temple of freedom for almost two centuries. It is not necessary to have Crown Jewels of gold and silver when our boys and girls have the love of free- dom and justice to all in their hearts. The real Crown Jewels of America are found in the hearts and minds of its people. Stratton We, the staff of The Eagle dedicate this our 1962 Annual to our teachers. To our teachers who have so wholeheartedly supported us in our many undertakings, we say Thanks . We think our faculty is the greatest in the state. They have done an excellent job in preparing us for our life’s work. Always we will remember our kind and helpful teachers when we think of our wonderful high school days.
