There was also the return of the ska- teboard fad. Throughout the halls of Douglas High School different and unique styles were seen. These people were not trying to please nobody but themselves. Many Douglas High styles were unique indeed. Dominating the Douglas campus was the popular stoned washed den- im. Other popular fashions were 501 jeans, Reeboks, and the ever popular T shirt. Some of the popu- lar T shirts worn during the school year were Corona, Hard Rock Cafe, and Spuds MacKenzie. ln Fashion Fads and Fashions OPENING Vogue lf This was supposed to be a candid shot d J a FAIRy tale Once upon a time in a county far far away, there was a sleepy little town by the name of Douglas. The monotony of Douglas was so bad that the only thing to do was to cruise the cobblestones and rent vid- eos. The only excitement the communi- ty would obtain was the carnival that arrived to town once a year, and the yearly farmer's auction during harvest time. One year, the carnival was late in arriving. When it finally did arrive, it did so on the day of the farmer's auc- tion. Unfortunately, the place where the carnival was traditionally held was also the place where the farmer's auc- tion was taking place. None of the townspeople could bear losing the carnival, so the king decided to join the two events together. And so ever since then, it has been the tradi- tional county fair. Baa Baa coop ?w. Where the fun is. Cruise Rebel! This seemed to be a very popular statement among Doug- las High School students this 1987-88 school year. Tenth Street and G Avenue were also popular main drags for the cruis- ers. But, no matter where ones' prefer- ence for hanging out was, the action was always present. Wherever ones' adventures might of taken them, at the end of a night out, there was no place for a better hangout than home sweet home. i Students enjoy a post-game rendezvous. MCR9l9 4- K ' S W.. National Honor Society is a very im- id-if portant organization here at D.H.S. Though everybody wishes to become a member, not everybody can. You have to to be either a Junior or a Senior and have a cumulative grade point average of 1.85 on a 1.0 scale. You also have to have a percentage of the facalty's vote. Though not the easiest organization to be member of there are always those people that will do what it takes. It is a great honor and it takes a lot of hard work in order to be a member of Na- tional Honor Society, lN.H.S.l so if se- lected a member, you know that you have been doing something right. D-Week celebrations have always been a tradition and this year was no exception. Although many of the spon- sors and students directly involved with the celebrations find that D-Week can be exhausting, t those that sit back and enjoy find that it was one of the best and happiest moments at D.H.S. Freshman and 50's Day on Monday to kick things off, and the hop kept people bopping to 50's music, while the Sophomores had Toga Day with olympic games held on the front lawn. Juniors this year added a new twist to the fun by dressing up in gangster and other underworld figures in Under- world Day. D Week 'lGo ahead . . . make my Bulldog day Anticipation was probably the best and most accurate word to describe D- week. For the freshmen, the highlight of their week was being adopted by a senior. This included carrying books for seniors, wearing silly hats and signs, and being humiliated for the week. However, the freshmen got even with the seniors by taking first place in the float competition. The winners of the floats, pep cup, and hall decorations were announced at the pep assembly. Saving the best for last, D-week con- cluded with the Bulldogs defeating the Rincon Rangers 14-6. K 5 DUE D P-Y, Surprise! This year's winning float belongs to the freshmen class! Black, pink, and white balloons and streamers showered the Cochise College ball- room. Although the night brought us rain and cold weather, it didn't stop the excitement that filled the air inside the dance. Couples danced to the music Joey Borane played while also watch- ing videos on T.V. screens he provided. In addition to the dance and all it's beautiful decorations, Student Council also provided a raffle to win a rose which was given out every hour. Half- way through the dance, the floor was cleared and the King, Mark Garcia, and Queen, Julie Montgomery, were announced. They danced in the spot- light to the theme song In My Dreamsl' by REO Speedwagon. All too soon the last song was played and all that lingered were the memories of A Night in Heaven. Who? Us? Seniors, seniors SENIORS Seniors Confess What was your most embarrass- ing moment at D.I'I.S.? It happened my freshman year. I went into a class room and sat there for almost the whole period. The teacher then noticed me and asked who I was. It was then that I realized that I had been in the wrong class all this time. Annette Gordon It was my Senior year in English Lit. I was leaning back and stretching when I discovered that I had left the price tag on my new shirt. Annette saw too, and decided to tell the whole class. Moni- ca Valenzuela Of all years, it happened my fresh- man year. I was sitting in the band room the second day of school when all of a sudden I was sitting on the floor turning 6 shades of red. I hadn't real- ized that I had been sitting in a broken chair. I knew then that I would be able to handle anything that came my way in the next four years. Yolanda Pe- drego My most embarrassing moment was during my Jr. year. I thought I was going to be late for a chemistry test, so I started running. When I tried to stop, I slipped and fell in front of a lot of sen- iors. It was even worse when I stood up and realized that my skirt was torn!', Gaby Villaescusa After having four eggs with catchup for breakfast, my stomach resented the food and decided to let out an obnox- ious loud air substance into the air dur- ing moment of silence in first period. In other words I burped! Ruben Eribes It was probably when I had my shorts pulled down in front of the girl's P.E. class my soph. year. Jesus Lozania Making an obscene gesture in front of Richard's mom, not knowing who she Seniors SENIORS was. Eddie Enriquez I was outside of the science class on the grass when the bell rang. I tried to hurry up and get inside of the class that when I stepped onto the sidewalk I fell flat on my face. Mario Quifronez I was at a wrestling match and I was going up the bleachers to talk to Lor- raine, I decked it lfelll, I was so embar- rassed that I had to laugh too.' Gene Arvizu One of the few times that it snowed in Douglas, I was running after Lisa Nutt when I slid and fell right on my butt. When I got up, my pants were all wet from the snow, except that it looked like something else had happened. Lorraine Young My Jr. year while I was selling sodas at a basketball game, I got hit by the basketball and it made me drop some of the sodas. David Aguilar My most embarrassing moment was during my JV Football season. I spiked the ball after I had made my first touch- down of the season and they gave the whole team a five yard penalty . . . Or the time that I had just taken a shower and was walking across the little room between locker rooms in my bikini un- derwear and the door to the Gym was opened and all the girls at volley prac- tice saw me and cou1dn't stop laugh- ing. Bernie Cornejo My most embarrassing moment at D.I'I.S was during football season. It was right after practice while I was changing to go home when two girls from a different school went in to the locker room to see the trainer and I was standing there in my undies with big red hearts and teddy bears on them. I acted as if though I didn't care, but I was really embarrassed. Ronnie Ral- ston I was walking down the hall with my friends and as a joke I flipped Lisa Nutt off just as Mr. Foster walked by and he thought I flipped him off. Suzette Es- cobar When I was a freshman, some senior guy told me I dropped my book and I didn't believe him cuz I thought he was teasing rne, when I got to my class I found out I really did drop my book. Lisa Castro My fresh yr. while walking down the main hall with my purse upside down. I heard jingling noises, but thought noth- ing of it, some guy told me I dropped something so I looked back and found all my change scattered down the main hallf, Kim Gomez Senior English . . . exciting!! Tears fill our eyes because its all gone we re starting a new life we have to move on. We hope friends will keep in touch as the years pass us by although it hurts inside well try not to cry. We think of kindergarden and our first day now we ve reached the end we are going away. How do you say good-bye to friends who mean so much? Will there be time to sincerely keep in touch? You ll always have the memories of your school years from day one. Dont think of school as ending . . . think a new life has begun! . . . Remembering the Past We started out shy and scared taking things just one day at a time hoping somewhere along the line just to fit in. Finally a friendly face . . . we d all found each other! All at once High School made sense. They called us, Seaweeds and we couldnt have been prouder. We lived each day like it would last forever, not knowing we'd have to say good-bye to some friends along the way. Friendship then, took second priority. It seems we'd found Love and that was more important, Now we're all together again. We've realized good friends are hard to find. Now, we live each day like it's our last, cherishing every moment, always . . .
