Girls Finish Dn I-Iigh Note The 1981 Girl's Track team, after a slow start, came back on a high note with a first place at the Smoky Hill Meet in late April. Several third place finishes, one second, helped the girls on to district qualifying Meet, where a new school record was set in the Mile Relay. They finished fifth at the District Meet. Members of the mile relay were Diane Kirby, Teri Cress, Melanie Steinkamp, and Suzette McKinnon. Although coming with a fifth place finish in the qualifying meet, it was not high enough to take them to the state meet. The girls had no meet at the DCI-IS track. Their coach Jamie Woodruff said, We started slow, but arrived with a first place finish for the sixth meet. The competition was really toughli' RIGHT: Margaret Emerson hurls herself forward in an effort to place high in the long jump competition.
