Caporali Receives Plaque For 25 Years of Service by Mark Goggins For his 25 years of dedicated Christian service to the priesthood. Fr. Paul Caporali was presented with a siher anniversary plaque h the Bosco Tech student body as part of November ' s First Fri(i mass. Fr. Paul was the principal concelebrant o{ the mass, along with Fr. Negri, Fr. Schater. and Fr. Nick, a graduate of Bosco. The mass was highlighted b Fr. Nick ' s sermon, which pointed out certain special incidents involving himself as a young metallurgv student and his instructor, Fr. Paul. Immcdiatelv alter the mass the silver anniversary plaque was presented to Fr. Paul by Student Body President Eddie Morales on behalf of the entire student body and faculty of the Tech. After Fr. Paul had accepted the plaque and had given a brief speech, the celebration was brought to a close. Fr. Paul has been at Bosco Tech from its beginning in 1955, and his contributions to the school have been immeasurable. .As one of the founding fathers of the school, Fr. Paul started the metallurgy shop. He was the dean of technology and a metallurgy mstructor ' in past years. More recently he has been doing retreat work at St. Joseph ' s Seminary. Fr. Paul is a true Christian leader among the students at the Tech, giving of his patience, knowledge, and understanding, said Fr. Nick. Bloodmobile Visits Campus by Robert Bloomer Seventy-nine pints of blood were donated by almost 100 members of the student body during the last campus Bloodmobile October 25, according to Fr. Purdy. The Bloodmobile was set up as a six-bed unit, with six nurses assisting. The year ' s goal was 90 pints of blood, and this aim was 78 percent attained. This is a worthy cause, said Fr. Purdy, and every student should keep in mind that each time one person gives blood, four lives are affected. The cost for the Bloodmobile was $1,200, but thanks to shop representatives and blood donors the program turned out to be a success. The Bloodmobile workers complimented the blood donors on their courtesy and consideration. The Bloodmobile will return to Bosco Tech March 4, 1980. Student Talent Displayed At Recent Halloween Show by Ronald Theiss On Friday, October 26, Bosco Tech presented its annual talent show. It began with a loud and enthusiastic rendition of Copa Cabana by the Bosco Tech Band under the direction of Br. Joseph Antonisamy. First prize was awarded to Eric Theiss, Fourth Year Building Tech student. Second prize went to Gerald Da Silva (Fifth Year Metallurgy), while third prize was given to Darlene Bonaparte of Ramona. The acts were introduced by the master of ceremonies, Jorge Soto, who in keeping with H.illoween was appropriately creepy and scary. He changed costume with each act. The first act was a magic show starring Ricardo Rodriguez. His magic feats were quite clever, but his delivery was a little slow. He needs to speed up the tempo. The following act was a piano solo, Fantasie Impromptu by Chopin, ably interpreted by Eric Theiss. He played with great sensitivity and will someday rival Horowitz. The third act was another piano solo. Patrick Aranda played a ragtime version of Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2. It was a comic routine, but would have been better it had been played straight. An instrumental followed this act. The group A.W.O.L., consisting of James Kaihatu. Dave Nobile, Mike Wallenstein, and Jim Bosco played Heart of Gold. The guitars were good but the harmonica was incongruous. The singer might have good if he could have been heard. The fifth act was a song solo by Daniel Gonzalez, ably assisted by Ken Willers. He was a- faij singer, as good as some of the famous recording stars. At one point, though, his voice did fade out. A comedy routine followed. Station Break II, performed by Steve Hawkins and Jack Spracher, was not as funny as it could have been. Their comedy timing was off. The seventh act, a dance routine featuring the Warps, a group of thirteen, was a funny, hip-swiveling, and energetic dance. It was greatly appreciated by the audience, who gave them a big hand. I hen Rudv Herrera sang A Better Place to Be. accompanving hmiscll on the guitar, Ihc song was great, but Rudv ' s voice was distorted by the microphone. An impression of FKis Presley was then performed by Armanda dc la I orrc He did a few of the Prcsiev favorites. Ihc tenth act. an accordion trio, featured Robert Reidel. Paul Rcidel. and Helen Rcidcl She wasn ' t bad on the accordion. c l. Darlene Bonaparte sang My Mama Done lold Me and accompanied herself on the piano. She had great stage presence and poise, and is a erv talented person. for the final act. deiald Da SiUa plaved Strange Meadowlark on ttie piano llis perlormance was technieallv perfect, and he shows promise, I he grand finale was a rousing rendilum b ihe Bosco lech band of the .Army of the Nile, However, it was too foud foi the people sitting in the front. freshman retreat 1 7 1 ' .
