Soc. 3,4 Yearbook, Ed. 1 Next-of-kin iRTHUR GODFREY Dear Prof, June 1, 1962 The other day I revisited the scene of my childhood--good old Dolgeville, N.Y., my sole purpose being to find out what the past ten years had done for the class of 19511 While strolling on Ronnie Gaetano Boulevard tnamed after Dolgeville's youngest mayor and leading politicianl, I saw a gigantic sign bearing the words Salvie's Diner . ln Mr. Musella's absence, Albert Olsen, a renowned floor- polisher, was acting as chief cook and bottle washer. He was demonstrating to Lois Cramer the prop- er way to hook shots , so that she might star on the Blondes basketball team. I knew that the elite must congregate in the diner for I saw many of my old classmates there. Seated at a table were Dr. Dayton Griffith, Ir. and his charming nurses, Marion Pye and Donna Borst They were discussing Miss Pye's recent visit in New York City with Barb Dolge, who is private sec- retary to Ver Miller. Ver owns the New York Yankees, lock, stock, and DiMaggio. In a corner booth, Lucius Jeffers and Harold Cool, two of the modern push-button farmers, were viewing a television program. CThere is one in every booth at Salvie'si J On the screen the talented actress, Reggie Stankevitz, was emoting in scenes from Shakespear's Hamlet . She was giving out with enough ham so that each customer had a double order on rye! Next the great tragedienne was interviewed by Betty Jarrett, once a nurse, but now the golden voice of T.V. A musical interlude followed. Music was furnished by Fish Metzler and his Adjatators. In another booth were the former Misses Alma Dodge and Earlene Metz--now both happily mar- ried. They had just returned from a lesson at Alice Clark's Cooking School, where at last they had discovered how to boil water without scorching it. On the screen of their television set,I witnessed scenes from the Dolgeville High School. The program was sponsored by Sal1y's Sewing Center , where they meet to pleat . This center is owned by Sally Pugliese, but she gets help from Lura Lyons. QMore men are sewing lately.J The faculty of the school included Bob Squeek Tanner, math teacher extraordinary! Beverly Nichols, dispenser of science g and Col. Roy Pius Stonesifer, teacher of southern history and civil war psychology. Entering the school with her children was Mrs. , formerly Janet Lill. The fam- ily was dressed in Sunday best to have their pictures taken by Miss-Rose LeClaire school photog- rapher. Down the corridor I saw Pat Pugliese repairing a drinking fountain. Next the scene shifted to the gym, where Handsome Harry DeCarr, head coach, was putting his basketball players through their paces. He introduced, as a perfect example of good conditioning--his ex-teammate, Nick Miller, star of the world champs, the Irondale Aggies. The program ended as Street Commissioner Dean Galusha entered Salvie's . Dean had been repairing a broken water main in front of Keller's Hotel. Dolgeville's newest, this inn has many in- novations, including a pool parlor, operated by your one and only Beansie Rickard. Upon leaving Salvie's I spied a sign which read, Smith and Antonucci's Taxi. If you want to get there fast, call Loug and if you want to there, call Dusty. On my way home, an idea occured to me that I had never before thought of. The old home town just wouldn't be the same without the remains of the class of '51. As ever, Chuck Weinschreider tOfficial Cream Puff Pusherj 16 .
