MARIANNE FIELDS March ro, 1936 August 12. 1952 She would have graduated with us. I can not say ---- I will not say That she is dead--she is just away With a cheery smile and a wave of the hand She has wondered into an unknown land. And left us dreaming how very fair lt needs must be since she lingers there. And you--O you--who the wildest yearn For the old-time step and the glad return. Think of her faring on--as dear In the love of There, as the love of Here Think of her still as the same, I say She is not dead--she is just away. CLASS HISTORY The class of '54 made their debut in DCSHS by presenting the annual three one-act plays, The City Slicker and Our Own Nell, The Laugh in the Dark, and What a Night. As sophomores the class was led by Glee Abbey, presidentg Esther McKinley, vice-presidentg Anne Miller, secretary: Bobby Ann Rhynalds, treasurer: and Carolyn Hughes, Student Council representative. Berna Dene Vance was crowned Basketball Queen, the first to be crowned since 1943. Their junior year, the class was led by Lanny Hunter, presidentg Glee Abbey, vice-presidentg Donita Burr, secretaryg Elizabeth Mapel, treasurerg and Eddie Riley, Student Council representative. Two girls from their class were crowned queen that year. They were Barbara Byrd, Football Queen, and Bonnie Wetzel, Spring Sports Queen. They gave the play, The Little Dog Laughed, which was very successful. The theme of the Junior-Senior Prom was Out of This World, which was carried out appropriately with the revolving celestial city in the center of the room. The class failed to win the little brown jug Demon Day but lost nobly. The floor show and carnival committee for 1953 was made up of Anne Miller, head chairman, and her assistants were Esther McKinley and Susan Kurtz. The theme was Sentimenta1 Journey. Lynn Gleckler was chosen as Football Queeng Peggy Kline, Basket- ball Queeng and Donita Burr, Carnival Queen that year. They had three senior cheerleaders: Elizabeth Mapel, Pat Rowton, and Bill Wilson. The officers who led the class through a very suc- cessful and prosperous year were Eddie Riley, president Lynn Gleckler, vice-presidentg Venna Grey, secretary Bobby A.nn Rhynalds, treasurer: and Susan Kurtz, Student Council representative. The year was climaxed by the senior play and class picnic. The play was Black Wings. On May Z0 the senior class drew the curtain on their grand performance in DCSHS. 20
